   | Once again they had landed on top of a habitated area, and worst of all this time the brit had lost track of Winston. With talon agents closing in right after her she hadnât even had a chance to look for the big guy, just hiding behind the first thing she found and waiting for her accelerator and pistols to recharge.Â
Looked like she wasnât the only one to have the idea of taking that place for a hideout, on her side was a blonde woman. Fingers to her lips she offered the other a small smile as she gestured for her to stay quiet. |
â itâs going to be alright. âÂ
        | she said quietly, for herself just as much as for the other. | Â
Aralei looked over to the other woman, trembling in fear. How had she ended up in the middle of a firefight?....The small woman was pressed into the cover with all of her might, willing the fight to be over. She didnât know who the woman was that was reassuring her, but she needed that advice to be true right then...so she nodded, and kept silent, as told.

âStop keeping your phone in silent, you got me worried!â
âBlood? Are you bleeding?â
âI donât like the idea of you walking down the streets all alone.â
âI thought I would never see you againâŠâ
âWe should get you to hospital.â
âWhere did all those bruises came from?â
âI have the right to be worried!â
âHave you been drinking? You look terrible.â
âSleep at my place tonight.â
âI donât feel safe letting you be alone when youâre in that shape.â
âPlease talk to me about it.â
âLet me take care of you.â
âYou need to rest now. Donât move.â

âYou couldâve died, you knowâŠâ
âI donât care if you donât want my help, Iâll do it anyways.â
âYou really need to stop drinking. Iâm serious.â
âThis time you got yourself into a hospital. I think thatâs a sign.â
âAre you sure youâre okay?â
âYou need to stop doing stupid shit like that or you will get yourself killed.â
âIâm your friend, of course I care!â
âYou know Iâm always here for you, right?â

âIâm just trying to help you.â

âWhy did you do it? Tell me.â
Be careful when you fire a bullet-
Aralei breathed in deep, ragged breaths. âIt wasnât my fault. You know it wasnât. Iâm just a normal person. I canât dodge a bullet....I canât....â He spoke in a way that broke her heart. It was so dramatic. ....She felt something calling her. As though she could see a light within him, begging to come out. âI donât think youâre as lost as you think you are,â She finally said, struggling to sit up. If she could help this person, who helped her, she would do it. Unequivocally. âSomeone inhuman would have let me die. And instead, you helped me- not only that, but you came to visit, to make sure that I was recovering okay.â Gods, how it was making her nauseous to speak so much. It was the most sheâd said in days. But she felt that this was so very important to talk to him. To keep him from leaving.
Be careful when you fire a bullet-
Aralei noticed the flashing of the security camera. She noticed how security hadnât come, how heâd been in her room for god knows how long. âŠHad he done something to them?âŠ. âI-I th-think I do,â She muttered, terrified. She sure looked it, with those weirdly-huge eyes of hers staring up at him. âYou wereâŠ.you were there when I wasâŠ.shot. âŠDid youâŠ.were you the one that called the police?â
Of course she was scared. Who wouldnât be, when faced with that? He was dodging her questions, visiting her room in the dark of night. âŠAnd yet, he had saved her life. That, she couldnât contest. He had really, truly saved her life. She tried to focus on that- that, logically, he wouldnât save her life if he planned to hurt her again. âŠ.Right?
âDonât stutter, nor mutter. Perhaps, I was the one who called upon the police. But, now that youâre safe and sound⊠My job hereâs done.â
The phantom stated, turning around, giving his back to Aralei and beginning to slowly head for one of the roomâs windows. He was clearly about to vanish.
But, even though her questions were answered, those answer only aroused her more, and filled her head with a bunch more of doubts. Why would a man like him save her? He was definitely not a hero, and there was no way he knew Aralei. Why had he acted like this?
âWait!â She called out after him. She tried to sit up, but moved too quickly, and gasped at the mixture of nausea and pain she felt. âPlease.....tell me who you are...â
Her world was spinning. She wanted, more than anything, to know who he was. He barely seemed human- he had all the makings of a monster. And yet, and yet, and yet, he had saved her.
He wasnât a monster. She knew that now- despite his harsh words, despite his masked visage, despite everything about him that screamed death; HE HAD GRANTED HER LIFE.

Be careful when you fire a bullet-
Aralei gasped quietly, pulling the covers right up to her nose. She wasnât surprised exactly- somehow, sheâd been expecting him, though she couldnât put her finger on why. Maybe it was simply because of his presence that sheâd felt before...the nightmare that seemed an analogy for his very existence. She could have sworn that he was here to take her away- whisk her off to the next life. But instead, he was asking her how she was feeling?.... âI-Iâm f-feeling rather confused,â She stuttered, fighting the urge to grovel. âI-I mean, I.....w...who are you?â
((i am but a smol shy bean who wants more threads but is âfraid to ask plus iâm not on every night but i just love following all of you!))
Be careful when you fire a bullet-
âYeah, thatâsâŠmine,â Aralei replied weakly, taking it from her. ââŠI guessâŠ.someone didnât have their own? OrâŠmaybe they didnât want to be found.â That confused her even more- which wasnât the best given she was already dizzy and foggy. Drugs were a hell of a drug. Not to mention the blood loss she had sustained. âA man, huhâŠ.how mysteriousâŠ.who, umâŠwho brought the owl?â
âOh, it wasnât yours? We found it sitting alongside you, so we thought it belonged to you.â
She replied, confused. Her own mind had started to analyze this situation, it was truly a strange one. Who was the one that called?
âLook, I know youâre very confused, but you need to rest, the doctor will be here soon, heâll brief you in your current situation, okay sweetie? I have to go for now, but Iâll be back, if you need something, thereâs a small device with a button on the drawer besides you, press it if you require anything. Get some rest, alright?â
Spoke the nurse, leaving the room shortly after.
Aralei looked at the owl that sat next to her. âŠ.Was it hers? So hard to think. It was like she was covered in layers and layers of cotton. She took the owl into her arms and held it close, closing her eyes..maybe it was best to rest, now. Everything always looked better after a good nightâs sleep. As she drifted off, she saw him again, a face like death, a hooded figure. A deep, echoing voice. Why had she been sparedâŠ.?
Her rest went on for several hours, but, eventually, it would come to an end, for an eerie feeling would awaken Aralei from her sleep.
Apparently, she had slept for long. The room was dark, despite the curtains being open, and the black skies along with the moon made their way through the windows.
From the corner of her eyes, she could have sworn seeing someone lurking in the dark corners of the place.
It happened once, and it happened again shortly after, almost as if a shadow was pacing around her room.
Was she alone in here?
Aralei awoke from her slumber, groggy and pallid, as though sheâd been ripped from the tossing waves of the ocean. Sheâd been dreaming of a tumultuous sea; a vast, grey expanse where a malestrom raged. The storm turned and twisted and fought against itself. The clouds spewed a torrential downpour of rain, and lightning split the sky. So much anger, so much hatred.
She could barely think when she awoke, could barely breathe. It took her several moments to regain her senses, but even so, her eyes picked up on movement. She wiped drool from her cheek and sat up. The stuffed owl, that had never once left her side, moved with her, nestling safely under her chin.
The softness of his fake feathers tickled her delicate neck. In the moonlight, her skin was practically translucent. One could almost see a map of her veins beneath her skin; such tiny, fragile little things to sustain the life of a fragile, papery sort of girl.
Aralei tried to focus, but she couldnât truly see. All she caught was glimpses of movement. But still, she felt; a presence much like the maelstrom sheâd just dreamed of, ever churning, spinning, fighting against itself.
The room felt damp. Petrichor opened her nostrils to the smell of gunpowder and leather. Those smells stood out against the sterility of the hospital like a lightning bolt. Aralei tried once to call out to the storm that had entered her room. But her voice was stolen by the wind- her throat hoarse, her lungs full of water. She cleared her throat- swallowed the seawater threatening to brine her insides. âWho...are...you...?â
