New Dracula Sideblog!

Hey! And that honestly changed my life. Because I went from a failure, someone who hadn’t been talented enough at anything to excel, to someone who did things because I enjoyed them. I had been raised in such an achievement-oriented environment, so inundated with the myth of Talent, that I thought it was only worth doing things if you could “Win” at them.

Happy moon day!

I'd like to share an amazing fact about this day I only discovered recently

Before stepping onto the moon for the first time 56 years ago - Buzz Aldrin took holy communion.

"I poured the wine into the chalice our church had given me. In the one-sixth gravity of the moon the wine curled slowly and gracefully up the side of the cup. It was interesting to think that the very first liquid ever poured on the moon, and the first food eaten there, were communion elements."

He then read John 15:5 which says, "I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing."

"I could think of no better way acknowledge this enormous achievement, than by giving thanks to God"

I think there's something really beautiful about this moment. I can't quite put my finger on it. He was about to step out onto the moon, for the first time ever. But more important to him in that moment was the awe-inspiring sacrifice of Jesus.

He stood at the pinnacle of man's achievement, and acknowledged his dependence on Christ.

God give us the grace to acknowledge you in the midst of our most outstanding achievements
