There's straight up no such thing as an apolitical fandom space btw, there are participants in fandom who are privileged enough to not notice the politics, and there are people who, if they speak up about bad experiences in fandom, are Making It Political.
There's a choice being made when saying you want a space where people can escape from political issues and just have fun, which is between the following options:
Address the issues that prevent particularly vulnerable, marginalized people from joining the fun
Silence the ones who bring up the issues, contribute to the barriers that prevent them from participating in the fun, and squeeze them out of the space
There's a wrong choice here. It's made way too often by people who claim to be progressive.
Making the right choice is fully possible and will result in a better space where more people are able to have fun btw. You literally just have to stop babygirling the people who need it the least.
Disgust has absolutely no ethical weight. If you are basing your ethical positions on the emotion of disgust you should stop, it is entirely unjustified and leads to a huge amount of harm.
Word for today: wisdom of repugnance
The logical fallacy that because something disgusts you it must be bad
this is probably the funniest example of a tumblr user simply not reading the post theyre reblogging at all
Reblog if you are a freak who is justifying their gross actions
thhis polll is nuts to me bc in 2020 during the portland wildfires and the pre vaccine era of the pandemic, i tried to sign up for a "mutual aid n95 giveaway" list, via my twitter account, and they banned me for having an anime girl pfp (it was rakka from haibane renmei) and having a locked account (i had a job and was closeted). i messaged them like "is there any way i can appeal this?" and they said "no" because apparently my anime girl icon and locked account meant i was either "fash or a creep or both." anyway they approved my roommates so they both got n95s but didn't share them with me. because i had an anime girl icon on twitter and didn't want my boss to find out i was trans.
anyway you all are going to get people killed (mostly trans women, bc we all know who suffers the most from pedojacketing). fuck off if you voted either of the top two options

Financial instability is a mental health conversation. It's hard to heal when you're stuck in survival mode.
There's a recurring online tendency to aestheticize consensus itself. The imagined future village is full of emotionally compatible people who enjoy communal gardening, conflict resolution circles, acoustic folk music, mutual aid potlucks, and repairing bicycles together at sunset. Which is nice for the people who genuinely enjoy that lifestyle. But plenty of humans are solitary, prickly, obsessive, urban, nocturnal, sensory-seeking, technologically attached, contrarian, novelty-seeking, private, or just plain difficult. Those people do not evaporate after the revolution. They do not get Left Behind while you are Raptured into the Utopia. They become your neighbors.
About to "maybe things were better back in the day" post but the relic of the past I'm lionizing is the pre-streaming era where what you watched was whatever the TV spat out at you. If you were an anime fan you watched whatever Toonami was airing and if you didn't like the show you either abstained or you watched it anyway. Sometimes you do eat garbage but overall I think you developed a diverse media diet and a tolerance for wildly varying levels of quality. You shouldn't view online streaming and piracy sites as an excuse to ensure you only eat five star meals tailored to you. Instead you should roleplay as the 80s otaku who watched whatever trashy OVA or fansubbed series they could find at animecon, but now you're scavenging for bootlegs in the Library of Babel.
You gotta enjoy some trashy anime to enjoy peak.
Go into another genre every now and then find your mid.
"The man who only enjoys peak will be gifted valuable gems and spurn them as coal. The man who only enjoys slop will be pay for lumps of coal as though they were gems. He who masters mid will treasure the smallest diamond in any stone and his furnace will never go cold."

There’s a lot going on in that little critter’s head right now.
1. Power move.
2. Why do people whisked away to magical worlds just automatically believe the first creature that tells them what side the person needs to help? Where’s my isekai where the MC slowly finds out they got in with like the deranged zealots and are part of the evil faction, and not the plucky rebels?
I think about this comic once per week. It’s funnier then anything I can conceive of. Mastery.
I keep referencing this comic to my mythology clients in the back office and it is directly leading to multiple projects.
This comic is amazing.

"saying this irl would get your ass kicked" is not really a great refutation of an idea you disagree with. one might point out that a sentence to which that response is accurate in many situations is "I am gay"
we gotta get back to torrent distribution, i just watched someone eat eight grand in bandwidth charges because they ran a direct-download piracy site with local file hosting through cloudflare. torrents were invented literally for this exact reason
torrents work like this
i have a file or folder on my pc that i want to share with other people. let's call it gayshit.mp3
unfortunately gayshit.mp3 is 750mb and im not paying for discord nitro so i need another way to send it
i put it into qbittorrent and it makes a torrent file. this is essentially a very small file that points to gayshit.mp3 so other computers can find it. kinda like a treasure map
i send this tiny file to my friend, who loads it into qbittorrent. their computer takes a moment to find mine over the vast expanse of cyberspace and then (as long as my pc is running and the file is still where it should be), it gets copied from my hard drive to theirs
this is the cool part: if somebody else loads that tiny file, they can download it from both of us. if i'm offline but my friend is on, the third person can still get it. this also means that if two people have separate halves of the file, they can download the other half from each other. as long as some combination of people have the pieces between them, they can all have the whole thing.
crucially this does not require a server!!! you can just upload the file to a few people and as long as they keep it, it's still accessible. as long as somebody, somewhere is still connected, it's available forever. the only way it goes away is if everybody disconnects from it.
please learn to torrent
An expert guide to get started using torrentsTorrents are one of the most popular forms of file sharing on the internet, accounting for over
always use qbittorrent, do not use bitorrent or utorrent.
its kind of distressing how you can tell a lot of people see popular indie artists and writers and such as like "a Celebrity but one which i stand a half decent chance of bullying to death"
The first punchline to "this happens in Homestuck" is pointing out the odd similarity. The second punchline is someone typing up the most rage-filled fuming from the ears "don't tell people that I'm mad" paean to the sheer indignity of the fact that someone mentioned Homestuck in your vicinity.
