[see below the cut for the binary code, if you'd like to translate it!] I love the bit in the end of Ep 9 where Zooble fixes Caine a drink and he acts surprised/touched that they're offering it to him, so I drew: this comic of extended bar adventures. Iâm riffing off the headcanon that Caine would get back to being a little more Goofy/insecure when he's no longer in full apologetic mode. I like the episode 9 moment a lot because it feels like a cute ending coda for both of their character arcs: Zooble learning to be at peace with their body, and also to embrace the idea that they can find meaning through building community for a few people who need it even if they can't change the world; Caine learning to sincerely care about the humans and their ideas, even as he's still early on the path to internalizing that he is also a person. The ep 9 moment is also a cute ending to the running Thing throughout the show where Caine's been desperate to be accepted by the humans, and his belief that Zooble in particular resists him for not being "mature" enough. I Just Think Their Friendship is Cute. {Check below the cut for the binary code + some extended thoughts.]

Especially the last one!
The Amazing Transgenderism Circus [featuring Jaxxine's internalized transphobia & cringe-phobia.] A post-episode 8 "Caine gets a redemption arc & joins the humans as Just One of the Guys" AU that I'm sharing before episode 9 drops.
This comic is here to be Goofy, but I do think Caine's whole deal is meant to tie into the series' overarching trans themes [even if he's not canonically trans.] I think the show's trans themes are broader than a few characters; it's a show about people who are forcibly assigned bodies & names they don't want, forcibly assigned "archetypes" & roles that don't reflect their real selves, and struggle to express their despair around this because their bodies & roles are so ridiculous that their despair is easy to mock. It's safer to play along with your role, when exploring the alternatives can easily make you an object of ridicule. Caine fails to understand Zooble in episode 3 because he is constantly performing the role he was assigned at his creation, and doesn't allow himself to acknowledge his deep insecurity with it-- so he's confused that Zooble can't simply accept the thing they've been assigned. After all, he's accepted what he's been assigned. He refuses to recognize that Zooble is dissatisfied in a way no "adventure" can fix, because that would mean acknowledging the possibility that he could be dissatisfied in a way that no "adventure" can fix. So instead he throws himself into performing an inauthentic caricature of the role he believes is "all he exists" for & is not allowed to ever exist outside of, even as that performance just leaves him feeling "used" "broken" "defective" and overall extremely unhappy. The parallel to the series' Gender themes feels very clear to me. But anyway, I believe all these little guys can figure themselves out eventually.
@castielrisingabove replied to the original post with an attack helicopter reference that sounded like it could be Jax dialogue, so I continued the story. The comic dialogue is basically a reverse of the episode 3 therapy session: also featuring Zooble's later character development and redeemed Caine being slightly better at listening to people. Anyway: silliness.
Catra redraw from 2023
what if Giles gave in to his birthright and became a Watcher but didn't drop his Ripper attitude. He rolls into Sunnydale on a motorcycle. Kids go to the school library and find him smoking with his feet propped up on the help desk. Buffy keeps having to bail him out of jail for getting into fights with cops
A lot of monster hunters think antique tools are better, and 99% of the time they're just trying to sell you their old junk. It doesn't actually matter. But sometimes, old things really are better.
The Cold War saw loads of nuclear tests that threw tons of cobalt-60 and the like into the air, which got into metalworking projects. That kind of test was banned in 1963, but the junk took decades to decay, so pretty much anything forged between the 50's and the 2010's or so is very slightly radioactive. There's still cobalt-60 in the air, but way less of it, so there's less background radiation these days. But that causes its own problems.
See, some kinds of ghosts love radiation for some reason, and nowadays Cold-War-era metal stands out like a radioactive thumb. Reworking it doesn't help, unless you completely melt it down in an industrial forge or something; the metal's tainted. And most smiths don't bother with that, because for most purposes, it doesn't matter.
But I've seen too many vampire hunters decked out with silver ornaments get trailed by ghosts, which either alert the vampires to their presence or just haunt the hunters themselves. And vampire hunters do not know how to deal with ghosts.
So if you want to stake a vampire, for whatever reason, you're usually safer wearing pre-WW2 silver jewelry than anything made in the last seventy-odd years. But silver buttons from 1939 are as good as a genuine ĹÄtavÄhana amulet.
Went to an Oedipus Rex adaption today and my friends were debating whether the Oedipus/Jocasta age gap was problematic. Like guysâŚI think their relationship has bigger issues
Does anyone else remember how much Dawn adored Willow & Tara, both individually and as a couple, and when they broke up how hard it was on her and how Tara still made the effort to spend one-on-one time with Dawn, reminding her that the break-up had nothing to do with her and that no matter what Tara would still be there for her, esentially taking on the role of a recently divorced parent and those two having a scene that frames that dynamic specifically? Because I do and I think about it a lot
A rough post-finale Pomni and Caine comic.
When youâre an urban explorer making videos of abandoned buildings that you expect no one will watchâ but then it turns out one of the buildings is inhabited by the Creature and that building has actually been his desperate lifetime hyperfixation & acted as his stand-in for the Entire World. Also: the weird dynamic you have with the freak who liked your 3am flop post.
I started writing this comic before episode 9, with the premise that Pomni might start reaching out to Caine for similar reasons sheâd post videos she believes nobody will watch: not because you think anyone will listen, but because someone might. [and then revised it all after episode 9 came out and delved more into these ideas than I was expecting!]
