How do people inhabit contemporary cities through the performance of rituals carried out repeatedly and consistently as part of daily life? I used this piece by the artist Astrid Starrermayr, who created the traditional Linzertorte in Linz as a mobile artwork, as a point of reference.

Symbols with a shared meaning for the Tyroleans should be utilised to make the installations into new monuments. Because a common memory is also necessary for the emergence of new monuments. For this reason, on the one hand, and the traditional dish, bacon dumplings, on the other, I chose the stone pine cone as a symbol.

I won't install my equipment in a specified place. Instead, the entire city ought to be utilized, and perhaps connected by a continuous line like in the projects in Another Breach in the Wall. The key feature of the spots is that they provide a clear view of the mountains, which can then be hidden. They should also be locations that people go to and are encouraged to stay in. These two maps show the locations of the previously selected locations.

However, there is another method that (without the use of virtual reality goggles) makes the mountains vanish. I would do this by putting a box in front of the peephole. Then, items of art or natural materials, such little branches, can be placed inside this box and arranged so that the mountains are covered. This method, which also includes social contact, would corroborate my argument regarding new monuments.

The purpose of my installation is to use mirror technology to make the mountains—a famous landmark of the city of Innsbruck—disappear. As in the figure, two mirrors should be positioned so that the sky is reflected where the mountains actually are. So the illusion is everything.
