Teagan smiled, already glad to hear that Kaaras would have him. Not that he hadn’t thought Kaaras would turn the offer down, but it was still nice to hear that he was wanted, especially when people often told him to get away because of how he attracted trouble like a magnet. It felt…very good. He felt warm inside, the warmth that came with friendship and a sense of settling into a place. He hadn’t felt that for a while.
As Kaaras stepped back, Teagan did the same, already feeling excited. He crossed his arms, watching patiently as Kaaras prepared his spell. Teagan was still fascinated with magic. Anders hadn’t scared him out of that, not in the slightest. He was just more aware that magic was powerful and that he shouldn’t get in the way of any sort of spell that was being cast.
His eyes widened at the shard of ice that shot out of mid-air and shattered his arrow into pieces. His mouth fell open and he applauded, grinning. “Incredible!” Teagan made his way over to the target to take a look at the arrow shards, seeing if there were any traces of the ice. None. Maker’s breath.
“Is that your specialty? Ice? I don’t know that much, forgive me. My sister is a force mage, Anders was pretty much focused on fireballs and healing, and Merrill…well, I assume you remember what she does.”
Kaaras knew he was a good mage, and good was probably an understatement. He’d been practising his magic with a discipline that not a lot of circle mages got, since his trainer was a Tal-Vashoth saarebas. The discipline of the Qun was like no other, but that of a Tal-Vashoth who detested the Qun, probably even more powerful simply by drive itself. That and he’d been practising for over twenty years.
Teagan’s reaction wasn’t overall surprising. The Inquisitor wasn’t one to boast, and he rarely used his magic in every day things, but when people saw it, they were generally impressed by his skill. His only reaction was a welcoming and thankful smile to such a compliment.
“Actually, I’m a force mage foremost,” he chuckled, “I just happen to really enjoy winter spells, so I practised them quite often. Often enough that most people do consider me a winter mage. But any magic that I can practice, I give it a go, because all magics fascinate me.”
And yes, that meant blood magic, too. While Kaaras would never actually practice it, the theory behind it was still interesting. And he knew not all blood mages were evil people, such as Merrill. He’d read about her, though not met her in person.
“I don’t fully disagree with blood magic. While I’d not use it myself, I know that some people use it for good reasons, just like all magic. If someone wants to kill another person, then they will find a way to do it, whether it be a blade or their magic. But… I understand that magic also makes it far easier to do so.”
