i hate posts commiserating about covid on this website because all i can think is how 4 years ago they would’ve been read as really wild shitposts
corporations are actively convincing us the reason behind global warming is that you, personally, aren’t reusing your pasta water to make tea and eating the teabag for lunch #vegan and we just let them
no seriously the amount of ppl I see who are genuinely trying to do the right thing and who think global warming is their fault because they have a car or turn the fan on in the summer or eat a goddamn burger is astounding. people are truly brainwashed into thinking anything we do as citizens has an effect on the environment that’s somehow more important than the actions of corporations.
in 2020, when everyone was isolated at home, fossil co2 emissions in the US only dropped by 11%. think about how insane it is that when almost every person living in the second largest GEG emitter was at home for months, the effect they had was a reduction of barely 11%. and yet that fucking carbon footprint calculator is shoved down our throat all day long. a whole 4 years ago when that article came out saying only 100 companies are responsible for 71% of global emissions, everybody just blinked and went “no, thank you. now have you bought enough metal straws?”
and i’m not even addressing the blatant racism, ableism and classism that coats every single one of these “personal responsibility” arguments.
why do you even get an opinion on wandavision when you don’t watch the fucking show?
Well, for one thing, I haven’t been talking much about the actual content of the show. I’ve been talking about the inappropriate casting. I’ve been talking about Roma visibility and the consequences of Roma erasure, and I’ve been trying to explain who and what the Maximoffs represent, in the hopes that I can encourage fans of the characters to become better and more informed allies.
I don’t need to watch WandaVision to speak on those topics. I get to have those opinions because they’re informed by my own history and my own lived experiences. I get to speak on this because I have developed a body of work examining the role of pop culture in global antiromanyism, with a specific focus on fantasy and the superhero genre. The plot and details of WandaVision are not relevant to those subjects.
I shouldn’t have to say this, but the problems presented by Olsen’s Wanda can’t be fixed by strong writing or impressive acting. There’s nothing they can do at this point to change the fact that the character has been whitewashed.
TERF= CLAIMING THAT ITS FEMINIST TO EXCLUDE TRANS WOMEN. Literally that's it. stop trying to tack on your little pet peeves so that u can call people u don't like terfs for unrelated things. Trans women see you using us to win ur little arguments. You are literally making it harder for trans women to effectively organize against REAL terfs when you start claiming everyone who holds an opinion you don't like is one. Regardless of where u stand on these issues "TERF" has nothing to do with how you feel about the word queer it has nothing to do with your stance on butch/femme and it has nothing to do with aphobia and please stop trying to make it about those things cause we're at a point where trans women get called terfs just cause they don't want to be called queer... Like y'all have taken language we came up with for our survival and making it completely fucking useless
Tbh I think fandom generally needs to get better at sitting with the uncomfortable fact that a story/fanwork/meme/whatever can hurt one person and help another
This is why I think “tag warning” culture is kinder and more constructive than cancel culture / “no problematic content” culture. One size does not fit all, but if we learn to be more aware of the fact that the same thing can be emotionally validating or cathartic to one person and upsetting to another, and pick up a general mindset of thinking before we post, “what might people need a heads up for in this content?”, we grow more compassionate, more thoughtful, and more understanding of the differences in people’s experiences.
Gonna defer to my default position and say a film cannot be 'Feminist'. Tables are not feminist. Rugs ard not feminist. All you can really is try and portray an issue or relate an experience as best you can. Or at a base level, have fun and make something fun that you enjoy and that others enjoy.

better, but my beef is with the ‘labor’ side of things—those who conditionally can't labor are just as us who can; babes, children, the infirm, the weak, the displaced, the injured, and the elderly are all demographics which we must pass, have passed, or may pass through, damaging our ability to labor. Still, we see the necessity to bring entitled to all that is created so that we may choose what suits and satisfies our needs, even though we can't labor and create, yfeel?
maybe this is what Marx was talking about when he criticized LaSallean ‘undiminished fruits of labor’

You know that episode of iCarly where Carly’s granddad wants her to move to Yakima? And near the end of the episode when she has said goodbye to her older brother, Spencer, who was her guardian, he’s sitting on the couch all sad and jumps up and meets her at the door to their apartment building and hands Carly’s inhaler to her and shes like “My asthma inhaler? I havent needed this since I was really little.” and Spencer says “Take it anyway” and Carly’s like “Really, I don’t need it.” So Spencer turns to their granddad and hands it to him and says “Take it. You know… You never know.” that shit makes me cry just thinking about it. I fucking cant. Like don’t bring that shit up unless youre prepared to see me cry.
