i love you vampires. i love you gothic horror. i love you unsettling themes. i love you religious imagery. i love you doomed narratives. i love you rot and decay.

i'm going to write a poem about me. i'm standing there with my god-shaped name in a god-less world watching two kestrels dart in a god-like sky. they shriek like two anxious hearts. klee klee klee! says one. their pulse beat wings are only thing alive between me and the mouth of the sky. and i stand there, uninterrupted and quiet for the first time in a long time. god and i, named and unnamed both, say nothing. we will never have another conversation. & we watch the small body of the falcon rise up the blue until she dips into the trees. klee klee klee! the other answers. i don't think i, now satisfied and reshaped to fit the sky and the field and the kestrels, was even noticed as i turned and left.
