Jobseekers at BAFTA

Jobseekers, a sitcom made and produced in Derby, recently had a screening at the BAFTA cinema in London. I went along as the photographer for the event.

Cine 14 Portraits

Butterfly

In March 2014, I worked with The Voice of the Big Guy and Electric Eye Pictures on their latest film, ‘Butterfly’ , written and directed by Alex J. Withers and produced by Ciall Kennett.

““‘Butterfly’ is a short film about one 16 year-old girl’s struggle against the epilepsy that has returned to haunt her life. When the condition puts her swimming career on hold and her quality of life under threat, she must decide just where her priorities lie… before it’s too late.”

   ’Butterfly’ was a great set to be a part of. Shot in Derby and Sheffield, I was on set Butterfly was on set for 3 long nights, including travelling to Pond’s Forge International Sports Centre to shoot key sequences.

 Whilst on set, I took a range of photos (more of which can be seen on my flickr) including:

Neutral

In March 2014, I worked with Goat Tree Flms on their latest film, 'Neutral', written and directed by Paul J. Farrell.

""‘Neutral’ is a powerful character driven drama which intertwines life, death, friendship & depression. It follows the story of a three year separated couple; Abbey and Alex, whom are reunited after a mutual friend’s passing. On the long car journey together to bury their friend, emotions begin to rise as they dig up their past."

   'Neutral' was a great set to be a part of. Shot in the Peak Distract, and having to fight against the ever changing weather, the crew worked tirelessly and professionaly to make what will sure to be an amazing film.

Nottingham Canal

While waiting for my train in Nottingham, I went for a walk and loved the reflections bouncing off the water. I had no tripod with me and so had to balance the camera on my bag and keep the ducks away.

Keswick Ferry Landing

While in Keswick for the Keswick Film Festival, I noticed the beautiful landscape around Derwent Water.

Sheffield At Night

Taken from behind Sheffield Train Station, this photo of Sheffield At Night quickly became one of my favorites. Unfortunately there were not enough lights on in the large building on the right, but the picture still works.

The Beauty Around

This is a test film shot on the Canon 5D mkII with Magic Lantern RAW. It's a shame youtube compresses the quality. Looks even better in ProRes or H265. Lenses used: Canon 50mm 1.8, Canon 24mm TSE, Canon 24-70 2.8, Shot around Derby, Sheffield and Buxton. Music:Where You Begin - Eliot Pister..

Painted Hall

While in London, I visited a friend in Greenwich who gave me a tour around the area.

Derwent Water Jetty

I went to Keswick Film Festival, stayed in a youth hostel, couldn't sleep, so at 6:30 in the morning I left to walk around the lakes and take some pictures. There was this little jetty there, so I put my camera in the middle and took this picture. I used a long shutter speed give the water a glass like effect

'Josh' As Tears Go By

In March 2013, I directed a short film entitled 'As Tears Go By', written by Daniel Spencer and Produced by Ciall Kennett. Dean Travers, a 20-year-old student returns to his hometown after receiving news about the death of his best friend. ‘As Tears Go By’ is a simple story about the pain of death, the struggle of life and the salvation in friendship.

Westminister at Night

While in London to see a West End Show, I took some time to do the typical tourist thing and take some pictures from across the river.

Keddleston Hall Infra-Red

These photos were taken at Keddleston Hall, Derby. The above image is the straight out of camera version of the photo, and the below is the colour corrected version. I love the glass-like effect of the water due to the long-exposure.

Fairground Ride Long-Exposure

These long exposures of fairground rides were taken at Markeaton Park, Derby, on Bonfire Night 2013. These photos took several attempts and lots of trial and error to produce, but I am very pleased with the results

2 Guys

As part of an exercise at university, we were given a short script to produce and make. Ours became a short about a man with split-personalities, and this was shown by the harsh lighting showing half of his face for each of his personalities.
