Something I think Below Zero did a really good job of, was giving you a sense of scale to the creatures in it.

The Shadow Leviathan is 60+ Meters. That’s almost 200 feet for Americans. And yeah the Reaper Leviathan is 55 Meters but throughout the entire game you typically avoid the thing like the plague. While in BZ you have to deal with significantly more Shadows while trying to find the fabricator unit.

The Ghost Leviathan is 107 Meters which while yes is big, you once again don’t really get that close and personal with them. Now compare this to the ice worm who’s 95 meters and it constantly getting in your face and attacking you.

Also BZ has other creatures like the Vent Garden which while only being a couple meters bigger than the Ghost is stationary and passive meaning you can freely go up to it and really just see how small you feel in comparison to it. And then there’s the Frozen Leviathan

In total the Frozen Leviathan is 150 Meters!

That is fucking massive. Almost 500 feet for Americans and you get to go directly up to that thing. Your character is literally about the size of one of the Leviathans toes.

Plus as an added bonus you get to stand next to Al-An towards end game and he’s like 3.5 meters tall (12ish ft) so you really just feel really tiny in BZ.

In conclusion both games have giant ass creatures but because BZ has more stationary passive creatures you feel way smaller.

(I will say Though that Subnautica has the Sea Emperor which is 200 meters but really the Sea Emperor feels like a special creature because of how rare it is. Like I’m not entirely sure how to explain this but yes I am aware of how big the Sea Emperor is-)
