it never fails to surprise me how some people will simply take every single thing in a story at face value and assume that what the characters are saying or doing or thinking must always be true even when all of the context clues are screaming the opposite
STEVE HARRINGTON & EDDIE MUNSON STRANGER THINGS 4.08 "Papa"
happy steddie new year
I keep seeing people ask why the people who were at Will's coming out were there, because apparently "he barely knows half of them". Asking why Will came out that way. Saying that "no queer person would come out like that." which is a bold and offensive claim.
What people are doing right now is retroactively stripping Will of agency because they didn’t like how he exercised it.
Let’s be very clear about the actual facts of the scene, because the “he barely knows anyone there” claim just… does not survive contact with reality.
Will is surrounded by: – the core 4. His childhood. His foundation. – El, who is family in every way that matters. – Joyce, his mother. – Hopper, his protector and now effectively his dad. – Steve, who has been part of his extended found family for years and is one of the safest people in the room. – Nancy, who has fought literal monsters to save him. – Robin, who has already been talking to him about queerness and coming out. – Vickie, another queer person, yes new, but not random, and someone Will already knows through Robin.
And Mr. Clarke, an adult who has always provided a safe space for Will and his friend group for years.
That is not “half of Hawkins.” That is his world.
The only people there he doesn’t have deep personal history with are Murray and Kali, and even then: – If Murray were going to be some big homophobe, we would have learned that about him by now. And it probably would have been addressed in a show about a gay man. – Kali is someone Will’s shared trauma-adjacent to, not some hostile stranger (that we know of rn, it feels sus to me)
And here’s the part people keep refusing to engage with:
Coming out does not require intimacy to be valid. Sometimes it requires safety.
Will didn’t come out because he wanted a tender one-on-one. He came out because he wanted the truth to stop being a weapon.
That means: – witnesses – communal knowledge – no more isolation – no more leverage
That is not careless. That is strategic.
People saying “he barely knows them” are projecting their own fantasy of a coming-out scene onto Will and then punishing him for not performing it correctly.
And honestly? That’s gross.
Because it turns into:
“You didn’t come out in the way that makes me comfortable, therefore you did it wrong.”
Which is… a sentence a lot of queer people have heard from much worse places.
Will chose: – when – how – to whom
He was not outed, he made a choice before it could be made for him. That is agency. He was not coerced. He was catalyzed. It was strategy and personal relief. He was not interrupted.
He spoke. On his terms. In front of people he trusts. And he was met with acceptance. Unconditionally. A pipe dream for a lot of queer people today.
The fact that fandom is now trying to litigate his guest list like it’s a dinner party instead of a survival decision is honestly telling.
They didn’t want Will’s coming out to be about Will.
They wanted it to be about a ship.
And that’s not Will’s fault.
steve harrington in his widower arc is something I thought I'd never see on screen and honestly MAYBE I SHOULDN'T HAVE???
"That night, I told you not to be heroes. I told both of you. And you know what Eddie did? He got himself killed."
I'M BAWLING STEDDIE WAS REAL
I can’t believe how some Steddie shippers aren’t happy with what Steve said
Steve is so angry at Eddie for sacrificing himself when Steve told him not to be a hero it shows just how much Steve cared about him if Steve didn’t care about Eddie then his sacrifice wouldn’t have bothered him this much
Steve is angry and frustrated with Eddie he wanted Eddie to live and he’s pissed at him for deciding to be a hero for no reason this is literally the kind of angst you get in fanfics
Imagine if Steve had said “Eddie did what he had to do it’s a good thing he risked his life for us” then I would say Steddie is bones but this?? if anything Steddie is more alive than ever
Okay but the fact that Steve recognised a flux capacitor was a bs term Robin had lied to Joyce about implies that he has greatly expanded his movie knowledge since the end of season 3, which means that while he and Robin were working at the film shop they absolutely had regular movie nights.
They definitely went to rewatch Back to the Future not high cause Steve was still confused
If stranger things’ writing quality didn’t dip so low, this season would’ve had Nancy talk to Dustin about how to deal with the loss of a friend… instead of her asking Steve “what’s up with him lately?” Hello?? You know exactly what’s going on with him!! That was you three seasons ago!!
If they make Dustin see dead Eddie I’m going to lose my shit. I’m picking up my knuckle dusters and beating the ever living fuck out of Vecna myself. To a PULP. A PULP I SAY.
I was initially expecting a scene where they’re driving in the upside down and end up passing where he died with his body not being there and an admission about some part of them being afraid to see it even though logically they know the military would have confiscated it in their sweeps.
Some comment meant to reassure Dustin to feel better about how Eddie wasn’t trapped in the upside down anymore cause he was buried and at peace now and then that brushed off with some sort of snappy and bitter offhand distrust on how the government has been known to lie about finding bodies for families before.
Season five steddie fics where Steve is having to hide how much he’s mourning Eddie….
Waiting for fics where Steve sneaks in some Corroded Coffin Songs into the air in homage.
I'm sure this has been said one million times whilst I was asleep BUT I love that buck's bitchy struggle with hen and eddie's new dream team partnership is clearly causing ABSOLUTELY NO FRICTION WITH EDDIE OR HEN. eddie's just like yeah that's my best friend he hates it when other people talk to me 🥰🥰🥰 and hen's like yep that's buck he's a little freak
i see your 'buck confesses his love for eddie to baby nash and eddie overhears via the baby monitor' and raise you 'buck is saying nothing of real consequence to the baby, just talking to talk this time around, but eddie is still listening and overflows with such an overwhelming sense of fondness that his own feelings knock the wind out of him standing right there in the kitchen'
Can I make you feel weird?
me currently.
dan and phil reveal the truth (but like actually this time)
what? oh sweetheart no, you're not weirding me out at all. you're weirding me in. keep talking, freak
