I'm starting a little miniseries all about Robbie! As much as I do love soft and sweet Robbie as he's usually portrayed, there is also so much untapped potential with a zombie character like him. So, this series will be a different take on him! This is the first part, and I will eventually publish more parts :)
Part 2
Summary: How Robbie came into the world (as a zombie)
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
Digging up a grave is risky and messy work. It is not a person’s first choice, nor even their second or third, and it definitely wasn’t even Marvin’s fourth, but he has no choice now. Morals and consequences be damned, this must be done, no matter how much dread it makes Marvin feel.
Anti’s becoming more violent and dangerous. A few nights ago he almost killed Jackie; Marvin and Henrik were barely able to rescue him in time. This is why Marvin must do this. What if Anti successfully kills one of his friends next time? Even the mere thought makes Marvin tense up and shiver, but he shakes it off as he flips through the pages of his spell book, avoiding looking at the now open grave in front of him. Tonight is the night that he makes sure he has the power to save his friends, even from death.
Taking a deep breath, Marvin begins to read aloud the spell from his book. His voice drips with desperation as he focuses all of his power and energy into the spell. He feels his legs growing weak from spending so much energy but he ignores it. Magic glows from his hands as he reads and as he exclaims the final words a large flash of light blinds him and the force of the spell knocks him down and causes him to fall. He drops his book and his mask falls off his face, but he doesn’t even care.
He shields his face from the light as he tries to watch the open grave in front of him. Through the now dimming but still blinding light he can see movement and his heart almost leaps out of his chest. He did it! He actually did it! Now he’ll be able to protect his friends no matter what Anti does!
His celebration doesn’t last long. As the light finally goes out and his eyes readjust to the darkness he doesn’t see a person standing in front of him. He sees a corpse, lumbering towards him before falling from losing its balance. Its muscles and bones are stiff from going unused for who knows how long. Its flesh is still pale and lifeless, and it stares at Marvin with milky white eyes. The zombie growls as if trying to say something, but do its vocal chords still even work?
No no no no no! This isn’t how this is supposed to go! He’s supposed to be healed! He’s supposed to be fully alive! Marvin quickly scrambles up from the ground, picking up his mask and his book, and stares at the zombie in front of him and the zombie stares back, eyes full of confusion and fear. The zombie’s gaze makes him shudder and he quickly looks away, desperately flipping through his spell book for something else he can do. He mutters another spell, hoping to put this corpse back to rest, but the magic sparks faintly from his fingertips and nothing happens. He’s too drained from the first spell, right now there isn’t anything else he can do.
“Aaaahhh- aaahh… I… mmm I’m ahhh… alive.” The gravelly, broken voice snaps Marvin out of his thoughts and his head whips back in the direction of the zombie. It just talked. It’s sentient- no, he’s sentient. Marvin drops the book in shock and all he can do is watch as the zombie attempts to stand back up again. It finally manages to stand up but it rocks from side to side as it shifts its weight trying to keep balance. “Hhhhoooww?”
Marvin swallows hard before speaking; his voice quivers as he answers. “I-I brought you back-back to life.”
The zombie still looks confused and afraid and wraps his arms around himself for comfort. The zombie is scared. His vision is blurry, his hearing is muffled, and he has no idea where he is or who he is. All he knows is he was dead, and now he’s not. He tries to think, to remember who he is, but he can’t remember anything and the distress makes him groan and fall back to the ground on top of a dirt pile next to his grave. “Whoooo?” He wails, and points to himself.
Marvin had known his name, he had looked at the headstone before digging up the grave, but the name has now slipped his mind, as have all of his other coherent and sane thoughts in his shock. He stammers before looking back to the headstone and answering “Robbie, you’re- you’re Robbie Kieran.”
“Rrrr… Rrrroooo…” Robbie tries to say his own name but he struggles, which makes him let out an agitated growl and start pulling on his hair in frustration.
“H-hey, you’re okay,” Marvin says quickly. “You’ll get the hang of it, I’m sure. We… we should probably go. It’s not safe here.” This is crazy. Is he actually about to take a zombie back home? What else is he supposed to do, leave him here where someone else can find him? That would end even worse than bringing him home. Chase and Jackie will be freaked out, and once Henrik sees who this is… it had seemed like a good idea at the time but now Marvin wishes he had chosen literally anyone else in the cemetery. Marvin takes a deep, shaky breath before offering a hand out to Robbie.
Robbie stares at Marvin’s hand and Marvin tries to give him a reassuring smile, but it’s not convincing. Not having any other options, though, he takes Marvin’s hand anyway and Marvin pulls him up from the dirt. Marvin shudders at the feeling of Robbie’s hand, it’s cold and stiff, but Robbie relaxes at the feeling of Marvin’s, it’s warm and soft.
The ride home is tense. Robbie is in the backseat of the car, buckled in but still wiggling around as much as he can and trying to practice saying his name. Marvin taps his fingers frantically on the steering wheel as he drives, occasionally glancing back at the zombie. The closer they get to the house the faster Marvin taps on the steering wheel. Robbie’s eyesight and hearing are slowly starting to get better. And Marvin’s tapping on the steering wheel is slowly starting to get more annoying.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap tap. Tap tap. Tap tap. Tap tap tap. Tap tap tap. Tap tap tap tap. Tap tap tap tap. Taptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptaptap-
“SSSSSTOOP!” Robbie roars before covering his ears, startling Marvin and causing him to swerve the car. The tires screech and skid on the pavement as Marvin desperately tries to straighten the car.
“Fuck! What the hell?” Marvin screams as he looks back at Robbie before looking back at the road.
“Toooo… mu… muuuu… muchhhhh….. nnn-nnnn-”
“Too much noise?” Marvin asks. Robbie nods and removes his hands from over his ears. Marvin huffs and lets out an exasperated sigh, but doesn’t say anything. He supposes that after years of complete and utter silence that noise is probably really overwhelming right now. He makes an effort not to tap on the steering wheel but without his nervous tick he ends up chewing the inside of his lip raw all the way home.
Once home Marvin doesn’t get out of the car. He just stares up at the house in front of him before sighing a deep sigh and planting his forehead on the steering wheel. How is he going to explain this? Especially to Henrik? His feet feel like lead and his legs feel like jello, he’s not sure he can get out of the car even if he wanted to. But eventually Robbie gets impatient and starts to pull on his seatbelt, yanking on it so hard he might actually rip it out, so Marvin gets out of the car and helps Robbie unbuckle his seatbelt.
Robbie clumsily gets out of the car and stares at the building in front of him. It’s a home. Where is his home? Does he even have a home? Does he have family and friends and people who miss him? Who is he? He knows his name, but nothing else. He doesn’t know where he belongs, where he comes from. He feels empty.
“Hey,” Marvin says, snapping Robbie out of his thoughts and Robbie lets out a small grunt. “Come on. There’s someone here that you know. Maybe he can help.”
“IIIIII…. knnnnooooooow?” Robbie asks, perking up for the first time since Marvin revived him.
“Yeah. Maybe he can help you.” Marvin’s voice doesn’t sound convincing, but at least Robbie doesn’t seem to catch on to that. Robbie follows Marvin towards the house, hesitant but also excited about what’s to come next.

Did my photography final on my custom dolls and had a fun time shooting Simon in industrial settings. Only the final image made it into the completed photo series but i think having him hug his harness like he does in the movie was the right call.
Posting this image all by its lonesome because it's just beautifully-shot. They were extremely careful about making sure he was always backlit in some way and it makes me happy. There's always a light following behind Simon somewhere.
