For people curious as to why AOC is receiving the vaccine so early when she is relatively young and apparently fit and healthy - the various companies who have developed vaccines along with healthcare agencies and public health bodies here in the UK are embarking on a campaign with the help of ‘credible, trustworthy and influential individuals‘ in the public eye to receive the vaccine and have their vaccinations to be shown on television, in the media and on social media as a way of reassuring the general public of their safety and encourage uptake in the face of a lot of misinformation and uncertainty about how quickly these vaccines have been developed.

So, over here for example, the Queen and Sir David Attenborough are two people that immediately spring to mind that I’ve personally heard of being likely candidates to appear on the UK list.

They’re being vaccinated early, along with the elderly and frontline workers. in order to get the message out there as early as possible. The idea is that someone who is unsure would look and say ‘Well, if it’s good enough for X / if X has had it and is ok, then it must be safe for me to have it too.’ Encouraging uptake is necessary to ensure they’re able to vaccinate enough of the population so as to provide sufficient herd immunity to keep the vulnerable and those who are unable to be vaccinated as safe as possible.

I would imagine that there are very similar campaign plans in the US and elsewhere in the world, and given AOC’s very detailed explanations of what’s happening and general vaccine facts and Q&As here on each picture, and her position as someone who is considered trustworthy and credible by a significant sector of the population and has a lot of influential reach via social media, it seems pretty likely that this is what’s happening here. (This will also be the most likely reason why Pence was shown receiving his vaccine live on TV - different individuals will have influence over different social groups.)
