Random Persona 4 nonsense

So, for reasons, I was in the P4 tag and ended up having to cross reference something. Which, specifically, led me to re-finding the apparently little-known item in Persona 4 known as the "Blue Pepper Chips" (they're "青唐辛子スナック" in Japanese, which is basically "blue/green chili pepper snack", since it uses "ao"/"青")

They're uncommon healing items, only provided by what seems to be 4 Social Links, and only during Golden's nighttime hangouts. Specifically (according to Megaten wiki, they're not even listed on the Fandom one), Rise, Yosuke, Yumi, and Ai

*I* only know about these because of my "Partners Only" run, where the only Social Links I allowed myself were Yosuke and Nanako, and I happened to receive them (my own screenshots provided below)

The reason I bring these things up is because of their in-game description. Specifically, they are listed as being made with the "world's spiciest chili"

There is such a thing as the "blue pepper", notably the Filius Blue, which are purple-to-red in color, but are nothing notable in terms of the their heat rating, and are more decorative than anything (they're about as spicy as a cayenne). (Image from thehotpepper.com)

BUT, if we take real-world into account, based on description, it's likely the heat rating of the chips is derived from the Ghost Pepper, which can also be purple, and was crowned "World's Spiciest Pepper" in 2007, or even the Trinidad Scorpion, which was the record holder between March 2011 and August 2013 (right when the game takes place, and during the period Golden was in development and released). Sadly, the Trinidad doesn't come in any particularly fun colors, ranging from red to orange to yellow

Is there a point to this? I guess it's generally a confirmation of Rise's spice tolerance, given we know she goes ham with the stuff, but apparently Yosuke, Yumi, and Ai can handle some terribly spicy shit too.

That's so cute???? Like, one, great to know to that Yosuke's parents are happily married but also just, wow, Teddie really is part of the family. It's adorable to see how much he loves them.

So, someone I follow on Bluesky put up a post pointing out the signs we see in Junes during the trailers, specifically these green and yellow ones.

Specifically, they noted that the sign says "Manager's Recommendation!" and the poignant question of if that's a caricature of said manager

Heatwave Recipe Recommendations

The heat’s been brutal this summer but we still gotta eat! If you’re like me, heat might suppress your appetite, and the last thing any of us want is to sweat over a hot stove and oven when it’s already boiling outside. Here are some of my favorite hot-weather recipes to keep hydrated and fed with when the weather is unbearable! (All recipes should be un-paywalled).

NYT’s best gazpacho (lives up to its name!!)

Persian cold cucumber soup (if you like tzatziki you will like this!)

Eric Kim’s cold noodles with tomato (infinitely riffable Korean flavor profile — for a creamier and less brothy take, try these cold sesame noodles too)

Vietnamese chicken and herb salad (this is an excellent time to get a rotisserie chicken so you don’t have to turn the oven on)

Radish sandwiches with butter and salt (and in a similar vein, if you dig this flavor combo you should try this Polish cottage cheese dip on some good rye bread or even crackers)

It’s still a little early in the season, but you can never go wrong with a BLT (or, if you don’t eat bacon, try this tomato furikake sandwich in its place)

Infinite iterations of pasta salad! You can use anything you got but here is a template I like.

Assorted dense bean salads. This back pocket canned salad is a weird combo of jarred ingredients but it slaps, this hoagie-inspired one is super satisfying, and cowboy caviar is a classic for a reason.

Poke bowls! Canned tuna mixed with some kewpie mayo and sriracha is a budget-friendly riff on the usual ahi and makes everything taste like a spicy tuna roll, but use whatever proteins you like, this is more of a loose template.

If you can buy pre cooked or canned beets at the store, chłodnik (beet yogurt soup) is a great choice. You can leave out the radishes if you can’t get them.

I also love sardines on fresh bread and butter with assorted vegetables. Buy the fanciest canned sardines you can afford but even regular ones are pretty good. Plus, very healthy!

This requires cooking some of its ingredients but here's another eastern European cold soup that I like:

Cold summer soup Okroshka is made with boiled and fresh vegetables, eggs, fresh summer herbs, and meat. Perfect option for hot summer days

I make it vegetarian by leaving out the meat and adding some white beans + upping the seasoning

Never underestimate the power of the humble charcuterie board for low spoon days.

She has range. Cut up some cheese, grab some salami or lunch meat, a handful of crackers and you have the classic. But there's so much you can do from here.

Add a handful of mixed nuts, a smattering of olives, dried fruit, even some chocolate chips. A little bit of jam or honey can add a lot to even cheap commodity cheese.

Vegan or vegetarian? Swap the cheese and/or meats for hummus or vegan cheese. Add some fresh veggies if you have them (do this if you're an omnivore too).

I'm doing this at minimum twice a week these days.

Been talking with the fiance regarding Sora, and the funniest point with her is the silly thought I had of that she has the capacity to possess people (actual thing kitsune can do), and she starts using that (perhaps unconsciously) when she doesn't get what she wants

That, and her treating going to the doctor like a dog learning its going to the vet, which the Fiance suggested she just transforms into something heavy so she doesn't go

The move away from physical media is so infuriating. We should have unquestionable ownership of the things we purchase that aren’t dependent on the whims of the company years after we bought the thing, but also! I love having nice pretty editions of things! Movies, books, video games, music, I love having a lovely special edition of my very favorites to display on my shelf! And now every company that makes every kind of media wants us to pay to basically rent things that they can take away at the moment’s notice with no recourse for the people who got screwed over. Fuck off!!!!!

On Saturday I said to my partner, as I have said for months, "A ten thousand dollar a year raise would solve so many of my problems."

As of this morning I was reluctantly looking for jobs because I love my job and don't want to leave it, but see: $10k raise problem solver.

As of noon today this was no longer an issue, because my boss called me with the news that I was getting a $10K merit raise.

I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. This is roughly $200 extra per paycheck. Enough to pay off debt faster, rebuild my savings, and spend a weekend a month in Milwaukee getting obscenely laid. The sex I'm going to have on $200 extra per paycheck. You can't even.

May all of you get the $10K raise your soul has yearned for. And whatever level of sex you can be satisfied with for $200.
