IT’S LITERALLY HAPPENING LMAOOOOO
Someone asked me a while ago if I still had a photo of the worst sink I had ever seen while apartment hunting in Los Angeles. I assumed I deleted it so I didn't answer the ask and now it's gone, but as it turns out, yes, I do still have a photo of it.
Google quietly added generative AI capabilities to Google Earth, allowing anyone to generate false images on top of real satellite imagery. It seems pretty rudimentary, but the potential for disinformation is sky-high.
Anyway, did y'all hear that they nuked the White House?
Within the first few hours of its discovery, people on Twitter used this tool to generate an Epstein Island attraction at Disneyland, a mega-prison within Google’s headquarters, and a sequel to 9/11.
Google has already announced that they will be “rolling back” this feature because of screenshots like these:
The fact that they want to bring it back with “guardrails” is ridiculous. Screenshots like these are not the work of some malign actors, they’re instant proof that your idea is terrible on its face

A lover of webcomics who wants to share that passion with others! Archived by the Library of Congress linktr.ee/WebcomicLibrary
Hello, my good peeps! Sometime last night (8/9/26) we hit over 9 Million views on The Webcomic Library database.
We actually hit 8 million less than 3 weeks ago and now we are here. I can't begin to tell yall how much it means to me that folks are still not only finding this project but interacting with and finding new comics to support.
For the past bit I've been trying to envision what I wanna expand on this project next and how to accomplish it. The past couple of years have just been me trying to maintain things after my medical downturn in 2023, but I'm starting to look more towards the future again. It's both nerve wracking and exciting!
With that in mind I have a little challenge that I hope yall will help me out with: The Webcomic Library's 10 year anniversary in on November 26th of this year. I'd really love to hit 10 million views on the database by then. If you want to explore more stories, publishers, genres, or anything else there's likely something here for you to find. So far we've documented over 2,500 comics and have over 300 tags to help you find what you're looking for.
If you'd like to help expand the Webcomic Library database you can reach out at [email protected]. There's also a template that runs through all the information used in this project to help with submitting or updating entries.
I'm so happy to still be sharing comics with yall and am forever glad to have folks sharing along in the journey. I look forward to continuing to find stories with you!
Fractally if you are so inclined, please tell me more happy stories about the Hollanov Hurricane rituals during home games and how they demolish everyone in their path and set fear into the hearts of visiting teams everywhere. It’s very sweet that they get to have this mating dance now lmao.
Oh hell yes ok so first of all there’s a special song for when the Hollanov Hurricane takes the ice and it’s Rock You Like a Hurricane (this song also is the chant, but the fans scream “here WE are/rock you like a hurricane” instead)
There’s also special graphics that play when they take the ice, set in time to the music. It’s basically just a video of Shane and Ilya skating into frame in a weaving / intersecting figure eight formation with a hurricane / storm graphic overlaid on top.
There’s a special goal song for a Hollanov Hurricane goal and I know, I know. but it’s Thunderstruck. Specifically the “yeah the ladies were too kind (bang bang bang bang) you’ve been (bang bang bang bang) thunder struck” bit
Ottawa fans have a kind of annoying specific motion they do during hurricanes plays where they raise their hands over their heads and wave them in a circle. Like a wave motion but with a hurricane shape. It’s like the Tomahawk chop in that it’s reeeeally irritating to away teams and looks stupid for a single person to do but works when it’s a whole stadium
There’s obviously Hollanov Hurricane specific merch. Shirts, hats, stickers, there’s even a special giveaway of snow globe type thing that has Shane and Ilya on the ice and when you shake it in a circle the sparkles in the globe make a vortex so they look like they’re skating circles around a hurricane.
The local announcers looooove to go “oh and it’s time for the Hollanov Hurricane” but they love even MORE to pedantically explain that while yes now it’s more common to refer to the joint play as the Hollanov Hurricane in fact the phrase originally referred to the effect of their individual shifts—Ilya “stormfront” Rozanov coming on the ice first to rip through the opponents team defense and then Shane “eye of the storm” Hollander coming on to take advantage of the disarray with deadly precision.
No one really cares about this detail except for the announcers and the nerdy fans and Shane and Ilya themselves, who take a lot of pride in their ability to coordinate not just when they’re on ice together but also across shifts. This said it’s still their favorite thing to play together and in later years when people have mostly moved on from caring about their whole deal they always seal a Hurricane goal with a kiss. After year one the Tire Center has a “Hollanov goal counter” that goes up any time Shane and Ilya assist on each other’s goal and fans joke it’s also a “Hollanov kiss counter”.
My woke take, as someone who has worked in both a public library and a school library, is that we desperately need both more books that are at a higher reading level but a less mature subject matter, and more books that are at a lower reading level but a more mature subject matter, because 8 year olds who are advanced readers are still 8 year olds and don't want to read about graphic violence and torture, and teens and adults who have learning difficulties or who are just later readers for whatever reason are still teens and adults and don't want to read about Billy the Bunny going to school or whatever the hell.
Shoutout to people in the notes also mentioning people learning the language, I should've mentioned that really, given that I've been stuck reading German picture books myself while learning German.
My brother: Hey how do you un-recline your old chair?
Me: My old chair didn't recline??
My brother: Ohhhh. I broke your chair
what people dont get about the transmasculine experience is that transitioning often subjects us to MORE misogyny than before. after my family found out i was trans, they were MORE misogynistic to me. my gender presentation was more closely controlled. i was more closely controlled. i was screamed at for dressing tomboyishly. my breasts were suddenly a topic of discussion. i hadn't even mentioned medical transition, but i was told i was "ruining my [divine female] body" by... what, flattening my chest and wearing flannel? i was suddenly a source of embarrassment, the eldest daughter who refuses to conform to her role as a woman. i was forced into dresses that showed my cleavage and bare back, in middle school, which i was extremely open about not wanting to wear.
all of this is explained by a very simple fact, which has always been common knowledge in the transmasc community: they don't treat us like men just because we say we are.
At least half a dozen men are currently on trial in the United States right now for murdering their entire families, including their children.
So why is Lindsay Clancy's the only trial receiving widespread national media coverage, "breaking news" updates, and live "Day 1 of the trial" articles?
If family killings are always about mental health, how come the same men saying "Don't blame him, he was depressed" on comments about men killing their families are calling Lindsay Clancy an evil bitch on her articles?
If family killings are always about mental health, how come they aren't calling their legislators asking them to invest in services for post-partum depression? How come they aren't railing against doctors who tell women "it's all in your head?"
Men murder dozens of women and children every single month just because they feel like it. Where the hell is the breaking news coverage about that?
I have a new standard for the level of haterdom to aspire to, and it's Reddit User KismaiAesthetics, who hates doing laundry so much that he got really good at it, so that he can (I quote) do it right the first time, every time, and get back to watching cat videos on the Internet.
and by "really good at it," I mean that he does a bunch of reading on the chemistry of laundry, subscribes to academic journals about laundry, and buys a bunch of different laundry products (including from outside the US) to scrutinize their ingredients and test them for himself. he writes a bunch of incredibly detailed longposts about his findings on /r/laundry and his website, which is also about laundry. he even got interviewed about his laundryposts, in which he revealed he's writing a book about laundry. this man is like ahab and the white whale, if ahab had a reddit account and moby dick was a pile of clothes with cheeseburger stains on them
anyway the reason I encountered this guy was because recently, the household washer has been leaving these gross little oily brown flakes on anything washed in it. this is kind of a big problem for me, given that I not only have (literal, diagnosed, medicated) OCD which includes a contagion phobia, I also sew a bunch of stuff with the intent of gifting or selling it, and sometimes that involves prewashing fabric. only, you know, washing is supposed to make things cleaner, not dirtier.
and my research brought me to (gross photos warning!) Kismai's post on the very topic. apparently this stuff is called "scrud," and it's basically a residue that forms over time inside the nooks and crannies of a washing machine - leftover detergent reacting with mineral traces in tapwater to form a buildup that also traps dyes, grease, and other dirt, which bacteria then feeds on, because it wasn't already gross enough. it forms faster if you have hard water, use too much detergent (which most people do), use fabric softener, wash only on cold and the list goes on and on - point is, scrud is the reason that you have to actually clean your washing machine, or be super fastidious about how you do laundry.
(I'll take "things I wish school/my parents actually taught me" for 800)
so now I am engaged in a lengthy battle against scrud, armed with a tub of oxiclean and a sack of citric acid crystals. (we're renters, so disassembling the machine is out of the question.) pour in a scoop of oxiclean, run a machine clean cycle, pour in a scoop of citric acid, run another machine clean cycle, all while wiping piles and piles of scrud out of the drum at the end of each cycle. I'm on the eighth cycle now. there's still so much scrud. the reddit record for "how many cleaning cycles were needed to get a machine entirely free of scrud" is 22 cycles. help
hey so like
it turns out that laundry sucks significantly less when your clothes and sheets and etc actually come out of the machine looking, feeling, and smelling clean, rather than looking, feeling, and smelling like despair dipped in slime
I'm apparently so consistently aroace that a friend of mine uses me as a measurement for whether or not something counts as "romantic," based on when I stop understanding what he's talking about.
@loraxofygg Stop being funnier than me on my own post (/j).
(7/30/26) The Red Cross just declared the second US blood crisis in its history.
Summer sees both a drop off in donations and, at least for our trauma center, a spike in traumas. Trauma centers across the US are in danger of running out of blood for our trauma patients TODAY, which is very scary but, unlike much of the other scary national news coming across our screens these days, is something you can help fix immediately and directly.
We need ASAP donations of blood, for people to spread the word, and for manager types to help facilitate others' donations. All blood types are needed, but universal donor blood (type O) is especially dire.

Stuff like this always makes me remember how sensationalized the “hide your kids, hide your wife” video was, also known as the “bedroom intruder meme” 🗿.
The guy was clearly one of the earliest memes of a black person expressing frustration publicly (it was a news report of the man explaining how he’d run off a predator trying to rape his sister by the way) but in a “funny way” (the way that nbs and whites find entertaining at least because they don’t see black trauma as something that should be given grace, and shown empathy right from the very start over their own intial enjoyment because that’s no fun), and something like this became a huge joke. Like, this meme was literally everywhere in the early 2000’s, and I think people forgot that his sister was almost raped 🧍🏾♀️…………………………..!
Forgot to mention just in case people start acting stupid oh this post if it randomly blows up (I’m not popular here so I might be free 🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀🥀) but the bedroom intruder meme was turned into music, merch, the brother was even on tv shows, and tbh, I personally never cared if poor black folks decide to capitalize off of a meme that made them viral to change their situation. It’s better they get something out of it because whites and nbs are laughing anyway, while making their money off of black trauma. That’s how it always is with these memes. It’s awful.
Holy fuck I had no idea. Never used that meme myself, but that's just vile, poor guy.
This the report that JK Rowing doesn't want you to see. This report scares her so much that she is trying to destroy Amnesty International, a human rights organization, to stop you reading it:
Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their fundin
(Amnesty already pulled the report because of JKR's threats. Of course that didn't and won't stop her - capitulating to fascists and bigots is never the answer. Alejandra captured the report and posted it, so you can read what JKR doesn't want you to know.)
Bluesky thread is a lot of screenshots (which I find impossible to cope with), but if you scroll far enough down, there's a link to the full pdf:
"Imagine," says the voice, "that you were underneath a blanket. It's a little small, so your feet poke out from underneath it, and your arms come out from either side."
"Okay," says the human, dangling upside down, suspended by a group of tentacles. "I got it."
"Right," says the voice, which comes from everywhere and nowhere. "Now consider a cat. The cat thinks you're kind of like a cat, but you're so big, he has some problems understanding that all of your body is really you."
"Am I the-"
"Yes. Now listen. Especially under the blanket, the cat doesn't really know where your body begins and ends. He sees your feet, and decides to attack them. He's only play-fighting, but his claws are real sharp, so it hurts. What would you do?"
"Well," says the human, gently spinning in the tentacle's grasp, "I'd try to tuck my feet under the blanket."
"Ah, but then it's even worse," claims the voice, triumphantly, "because now your cat sees Blanket Monsters and attacks them twice as hard."
"So you have to grab the cat."
"It's either that or burrito her," says the voice, squeezing the human in the grip of its tentacles. "And since in this metaphor the blanket represents the fabric of reality as you know it, I don't think you'd find it very pleasant."
"Fair enough," says the human, blood beginning to pool in her head. "Can you please put me down, now? I promise I won't attack you again."
"That's what the cat says every time, too, and yet..."
so thinking about this, i am reminded of graystoke, the smartest cat by far that i ever had.
graystoke hated feet and frequently attacked them.
and one day, when he was probably ten or so, he attacked my feet, and i said ow, and he suddenly stared at me with this look of absolute horror. and he did not attack feet again.
The number of arts and crafts projects I can complete while procrastinating doing manuscript edits is truly inspiring.
