breakfast sounds like a terrific idea now. caz had never been one to be hungry when he woke up, but after a light workout or swim, that always changed quickly. “ yeah, nope. that was gunna be the next stop, actually. as bracing as the water is, i need some coffee, too. just lemme — ” he trails off, twisting around as he scours the dock for his abandoned sweatshirt. it’s easy enough to find, the unnatural gold of the crest standing out from the natural browns and greens of their surroundings. he shakes out the hoodie just to make sure nothing unwanted has crawled onto it before pulls on over his head, the worn quinnipiac yellow snarling bobcat crest setting over his chest.
" so a HOTSPOT summer ?? “ he questions, smile a mischievous slash as he starts a slow pace toward the cafeteria. ” bet hollis is paying for that one. that’s gunna make you the most popular person at camp. “ it hasn’t exactly been a quiet fact that the service sucks out here — and that several of hollis’ alleged most TALENTED find that unacceptable. he doesn’t MIND the remoteness of lake powell, really. it’s harder to miss something when you aren’t constantly reminded by it every second. loading his working has been a bit of a trip, though — he’s got to remember to write them all out at some point.
“ ugh, yes — coffee is a definite must. ” she watches as he scours the dock and spots the sweater at the same time he does. as he tugs it on, she spies the very not - hollis crest emblazoned on the material and she quirks a brow. “ quinnipiac ? ” she questions with a pointed nod at the sweater. “ sporting the rival’s crest — brave. ” arianna smirks as she falls into step next to caz. she’s never paid much attention to sports, only ever going to games when her friends dragged her along, but she was well - educated enough to recognize a competitor’s logo, its presence at the knights’ training camp a surprise.
she laughs at his assumption. “ oh yes, i would not be biting that bullet if i could help it. ” not that she’s lacking the funds to afford a costly phone bill, but that isn’t necessarily what arianna has in mind for her savings. “ but shh — ” she brings a finger to her lips. “ don’t tell anyone, our lil’ secret. ” she winks at him with a giggle. “ i’m not trying to get trampled for my hotspot. ” her eyes roll at the severity of some people’s desperation for a few bars — she herself is looking forward to a summer semi off the grid for a few weeks.
the camera is heavy in arianna’s grip as she tries to catch a good shot of vinny on the field — which is proving to be much easier said than done. after the shutter snaps several shots, arianna drops the camera down to look at the photos and groans. “ vin, come on, ” she calls, looking back to the player on the field. “ need i remind you you’re not in the middle of a game ? the clock isn’t ticking down for you to nail the winning goal, you don’t need to be so frantic. ” she sighs and settles down into a crouch. need a cute picture of you at brunch ? arianna’s your girl — gotta get a good picture of the sunset ? arianna can nail it. but a photo of an athlete kicking a soccer ball into a net was proving to be her kryptonite. “ can’t you just ... slow it down ? all of these photos are blurry and i can’t post a blurry photo. ”
caz watches the flush creep across her cheeks and wonders if he should further explain himself — it’s not like he had the most conventional of reasons to be here ; or, in his opinion, ANY reason to be here besides to stay in the good graces of hollis. she hadn’t been so off-base in her assessment. but in the end, he decides the confusing politics of it all aren’t worth it, and just sticks with the charming smile. after all, this was ALL about the soccer teams. social media manager makes SENSE for her, though ; a small noise of understanding made as he nods. " so the cell phone is the tool of your trade —– “ his gaze drops at the movement of her offered hand and he almost laughs, even though it’s not really that funny. it just seems he’s shaken so many hands, but not so many of those with PEERS and certainly not shirtless and barefoot unless you counted those bro handshake + hug combos. as it is, caz shakes it with a slight air of amusement — but still : firm, good eye-contact ( some lessons are never drilled out of you, no matter the situation ). ” VERY official, i see, arianna — i’m caz. “
she laughs at his pointed glance towards her phone combined with his words. he’s right on base — her phone’s her lifeline, and not just in the self - centred, tech princess way. “ yes, i guess you could say that, ” she replies with a laugh. “ it’s all i’ve got to do my work out here — the wifi here is horrid, so it’s a hotspot summer. ” arianna could only imagine the nightmare that would’ve been her phone bill by the end of the summer if hollis hadn’t taken it upon themselves to cover the additional expenses while they were in the middle of nowhere. she smiles as he takes her offered hand — the traditional greeting ingrained in her by her professional parents — and she’s impressed by the confidence behind it. most people always seemed caught off guard by the modesty of a handshake. “ caz, ” she repeats, almost testing the name out on her tongue. “ it’s nice to meet you. ” she drops her hand back to her side and casts a glance around them, realizing they’re still just standing in the middle of the dock. “ y’know ... i hear they hide the good breakfast from the teams — something about keeping them in shape for training — so i bet they’ve got all the goods out now that they’re at practice and i have a real craving for some pancakes ... have you eaten yet ? ” she’s not used to being so forward, but she’s unsure of where else to take their conversation without awkwardly turning away from him — and she wouldn’t mind getting to know him better over a carb - loaded breakfast, especially since she’s sure they’ll be seeing a lot of each other over the coming weeks.
maybe it was a little insensitive to lead off with concern over her phone over well, her, but people dry out ; electronics, not always the case. hazel eyes watch her pocket her phone, the gears in his mind turning as he tries to connect the face to a name with little success. evidently looking over the camp roster when his phone had lost service on the journey up hadn’t done much good. he offers a smile : fairly sincere, slightly lopsided, a dimple forming easily. " well — hopefully you never have to find out if that’s really true or not. would hate to be the reason you found out it’s NOT. “ his friend casey had sworn up and down his phone was waterproof once, going so far as to chuck it into the swimming pool to prove the point ; needless to say, his point was very much NOT proven.
he misses her little visual body scan, attention conveniently caught on nothing as he glances off to the side with a small sigh. ” no —- “ she’s partially right ; he does have a morning workout — just not the one she’s thinking of. though maybe one of the days he might just sneak on the field for fun ; hand - eye coordination was invaluable, no matter WHAT sport. fingers trail briefly through his hair to neaten it, lake water dripping sluggishly past his collarbone. ” no, i’m not on that — the team. “ he clarifies, ” just here to help, or whatever. “ he eyes her once again, still unable to place her face in the camp roster. not a cheerleader if her presence in casual clothes on the dock at 7:14 am was any indication. ” — and you are ?? sports med ?? photography ?? culinary arts ?? “
arianna cannot help but mimic the smile that grows on his face, its curve infectious. she laughs and tucks a piece of hair behind her ear and nods. “ especially all the way out here. can’t imagine anyone would be willing to drive me to the nearest city for a new phone, ” she smirks and pats the device where it sits securely in her pocket, absentmindedly ensuring it was safe. eyes widen when he refutes her question and she can’t help but flush. “ o–oh, i see ! ” a man of his ... physique had left little question in her mind that he was on the soccer team — coming up incorrect left her stomach twisting anxiously. “ well, i’m sure your help is greatly appreciated ! it’s gonna be a hectic summer. ” she lets out a short laugh — real smooth, moreno, she chastises herself. when the conversation is reverted back to her, arianna lets herself smile. “ oh, i’m the social media manager ! ” she answers proudly, holding herself up straighter. suddenly, she realizes an important step of their interaction was missing and she sticks out a hand for him to shake. “ i’m arianna moreno. ”
𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐋𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆, the bus ride even longer as the trees blurred into shades of green and brown, catching glimpses of blue from the sky; the bars on her phone going down with each twist and turn that led them to lake powell. her suitcase gets left half-open on her cabin floor, surely a safety hazard for her roommates, but the thought doesn’t even cross her mind as she skips down the steps, beginning to make her way to the beach. the airy breeze is welcomed as it sweeps by her, toying with the sheer cover up that teases the world with a baby blue bikini underneath , “ SERIOUS question , ” she begins , as she pops the cherry flavored lollipop out of her mouth , “ might be the most IMPORTANT question you answer all SUMMER . ” she pauses for a beat , a coy smirk toying on the girl’s features that already gives hint to the mischievous question that’s about to flit past her lips , “ top OR bottom ? —– which bunk did you CLAIM ? ” there’s an innuendo wedged between her syllables as she bites her lip in a teasing grin, holding out her lollipop to them as if it were a mic.
arianna skips alongside sienna, her beach bag bouncing against her side. hitting the beach had been number one on the girls’ agenda upon arriving at the camp, and she is eager to soak up some sun while they have some downtime together. her head is off in the clouds as they walk, eyes wandering her unfamiliar surroundings and soaking it all in, but sienna’s voice shakes her out of her reverie. “ oh ? ” she says, the other girl’s cliffhanger peaking her curiosity. once she finishes her thought, arianna can’t help but giggle and roll her eyes. “ oh, how i missed your crude humour, si, ” she says, bumping her hip against her friend’s. “ i called dibs on the top bunk, of course — hot air rises and you know i’m always freezing. besides, i couldn’t imagine sleeping underneath someone. ” she shivers at the thought.
lake powell’s water slips cool and refreshing past him — almost NUMBINGLY so after the cool night, but no different from the place he considers to be home. his head breaks the water by the dock, one hand gripping the worn wood as he checks the time. according to the waterproof watch on his wrist he’s timed it right —- the teams have gone off to their morning workouts and activities, in the process leaving the area and more specifically the cafeteria empty. it’s an easy job to haul himself gracefully out of the water back onto the dock ; they don’t call minnesota the state of a thousand lakes for nothing. his mind, however, is on what he’s going to get to eat, and he’s not expecting to near stumble into someone in the process. “ shit —- sorry, ” he curbs his momentum, but only just. “ —- didn’t get your phone wet did i ? ”
with the teams off doing their ... sport things, arianna’s left to explore the camp that she is to call home for the next few weeks. the bright morning sunshine allows the perfect opportunity for some scenic photos that she could use in future social media posts, so she’s venturing around the lake with her cell phone. it’s a sight to behold as she steps onto the dock and arianna decides to pause and get a photo of the picturesque lake powell. she’s so focused on framing it perfectly that she doesn’t hear the footsteps approaching her until it’s too late and she gasps as she stumbles, forming a death grip on her cell phone. she glances to her left, wide eyed and ready to sputter out apologies for being in the way, when her eyes land upon the very cute, very wet male who’d just bumped into her and her brain suddenly blanks. his words bring her back to reality and she glances down to her phone. “ o–oh, no it’s fine ! ” she wipes off a single droplet from the screen and shakes the phone at him so he can see it survived. “ it’s the newest iphone, so it’s waterproof. even if you’d made me drop it right off the dock it would’ve been alright. ” she giggles but still pockets the phone — not actually wanting to test that theory — before she looks back to him, unable to not flick her eyes up and down him. “ aren’t you—ah, shouldn’t you be at the morning workout ? ” she says with a quirked brow, assuming him to be one of the athletes on the men’s team.

* 𝐁𝐀𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐒 :
full name : arianna josephine moreno
age : twenty two
gender / pronouns : cis female / she , her
hometown : scarsdale , ny
major : communications
* 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐘 : ( tw : mention of cancer , death )
arianna comes from old columbian money. her family is a pretty big deal back in their home country, her great - grandfather being the founder of a major luxury hotel chain. many years ago, arianna’s grandfather decided to branch the family business out to the states and he planted his roots in scarsdale, new york, which is where arianna was born and raised.
her father eventually took over the hotel chain, which led to him being busy a lot and having to travel extensively. luckily, arianna’s mother, a talented author and freelance editor, was able to stay at home and raise ari and her two older brothers.
being the only girl and the youngest child, arianna has a bad case of spoiled princess syndrome. she grew up getting pretty much whatever she wanted whenever she wanted it, so hearing the word no is a foreign feeling to her.
however, where the morenos are known for being wealthy and successful, they’re equally noted for their confidence, ambition, and intelligence. nothing just fell into their laps, all of arianna’s ancestors worked for what they had so that was deeply instilled in ari from a young age. chores were a weekly routine, along with good grades and extracurriculars.
a future in the family business was never forced down the throats of the moreno children...much. sure there was a tradition of the kids taking over the chain, sure ari’s dad would love to keep the chain in the family, sure he began taking each kid to work when they turned 16 to dip their toes in the water. but a life in the hotel industry was never proposed as the only option for them. arianna and her brothers had the world at their fingertips, they could truly do anything and have the support of their parents.
come high school graduation, arianna decided to take some time off from school and worked for her father for a while to properly experience the family business. after two years, she could tell that a future with the company was something she wanted, but her brother took much of the weight off of her shoulders by stepping up to be ceo in training, leaving arianna to set her sights on a place behind the scenes where she could excel.
she decided to attend her mother’s alma mater, hollis univeristy, to major in communications. hollis is a far way from home, but ari wanted to properly experience life away from the nest and where better than across the country?
now fast forward two years to when arianna is just finishing up her finals for sophomore year. she got a call from her mother that her father had a case of acute leukemia, leaving him with mere months to live. arianna raced home to scarsdale and practically fell off the face of the earth to most of her college friends. she did not return to hollis in the fall, instead taking a year off to spend time with her family. her father passed away shortly after christmas.
returning to hollis had been up in the air for arianna for a few weeks. she was unsure about leaving her family again, especially with all of the trouble they had to deal with regarding the company. but when one of her professors called about an opportunity to work as the social media manager for the knights, her family all but shoved her on the plane back to california, eager to see arianna find her passion again and move forward with her life.
aesthetics : valentine’s candy hearts , rose gold jewelry , early morning sunrises , organized agendas , freshly manicured nails , laughter echoing down a hallway , coffee at midnight
in a nutshell, arianna is a beacon of charisma, optimism, laughter, and ambition. her smile is infectious and she really just loves to spread love and optimism.
growing up, she was always a bright - eyed, excitable girl, but moving away from home and finding herself seemed to unleash a whole new level of wonderment.
she loves to explore. having grown up with her family name plastered on hotels around the world, arianna has seen much of the world. she loves to travel and make every trip count, and yearns to find a little adventure where ever she goes.
trusting, very trusting — too trusting. almost on the verge of gullible. she really just believes in the best of everyone and can’t imagine why anyone would want to cause any harm in the world. but on that note, also a little firecracker when she needs to be. if you do cause any harm to her or her loved ones, she’s not afraid to step up and tell you to shove your head where the sun don’t shine.
incredibly independent and determined. especially since her father’s death, she wants to live up to the moreno name and make her family proud.
love is one of her favourite things ever. she’s probably the biggest hopeless romantic ever and she often cries over cheesy romcoms on sunday nights.
she’s the type who’d swoon over a bouquet of roses or a sweet text message, but she’s not dependent on finding the one. although she’s no stranger to the dating game, ari is determined to focus on her studies and her future career, and just wants to enjoy her youth.
* 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 :
