Story of a traumatized child
This kills me every time
Happy 25th anniversary, Animal Crossing!
been playign creature walking sim
tom nook is NOT a landlord!!! he is a construction worker! he SELLS you a WHOLE HOUSE! He is not CHARGING YOU however many bells a month to live there! You PURCHASE a HOME that he BUILDS FOR YOU and then you PAY HIM FOR HIS SERVICE. He charges no interest he sets no time limit it is a relationship built on trust. the only penalty you get for not paying off your home is that he won't build more home until you pay him for the first one. A guy that builds you a house wherever you want him to and then charges you for the cost of construction is not a landlord you own the fucking home
He is, however, in the mafia
I wish we could make rock gardens as easily as we can in our slumber island.
I'm sure some tea would have fixed Ophelia.
...The villagers are really going through it, huh?
my super inflammatory game design opinion is that no game should ever encourage you to to play every day. yes, this includes animal crossing.
I disagree with regards to Animal Crossing, particularly since I feel like New Horizons DOESN'T encourage daily playing like its predecessors.
The entire conceit of Animal Crossing at its conception was that it was a game that played even when you weren't present. Now, I grew up poor and so didn't have a lot of games, so I don't know if others did this. But from my perspective as a kid back then, it felt novel to have a game that was different every time you logged in, especially if you were gone for awhile. You might log in to find that some villagers had moved away, or someone moved in; the town's landscape could change with weeds or roaches in your house. It made an otherwise simple game feel dynamic and worth coming back to, unlike other life sims where that doesn't matter (e.g. Stardew Valley, no matter how much I love it).
But we lost that in New Horizons. Villagers now need express permission to leave. Ordinances prevent roaches or weeds if you turn that on. The island feels pretty much the same day in and day out. And while it was heartbreaking in the past to lose a favorite villager, having them just up and leave was, I feel, an important part of what made Animal Crossing so unique.
I agree that streak bonuses and the like are nonsense. But I personally feel Animal Crossing lost a spark when it took away the dynamics of a community meant to exist even when you weren't playing, which in turn did encourage you to play. While I love terraforming and outside decorating (and renovating my villager's houses because good lordt some of them don't even have BEDS), I hope some of that dynamic can be brought back for the next game, so it doesn't feel as much like every other life sim on the market.
today is a great day to remember that all the BIN files for amiibo can be found online and that with a app like tagmiibo or similar and some cheap nfc sticker tags you too can access all the new collab content in acnh and also whatever villager you want without buying expensive plastic :)
