Creating a group document during a group skype call
We got together as a group and figured out over skype exactly what we wanted to do. We are making a catalogue of the future, each of us are making a few âworksâ which will be the items we are selling on the catalogue. I am doing items that focus on music and items that focus on celebrations.
Music in the future will be much more personalised, I am making a chip and an earpiece that tune into receptors of the cerebrum, the chip will produce playlists for the individual based on their mood and the earpiece will allow the individual to tune into a live concert, club, festival, music event, etc, much like a physical livestream.Â
I am also focusing on birthday cards/ birthday wishes in the future. How will people send their wishes to others? As social media has completely influenced the way we communicate with people to wish them well/ a happy birthday/etc, how would the future do the same? We thought about antiques of the present, how mundane objects of the past become valuable items of the future. We then thought about how the idea of physical birthday cards would eventually become something a lot more valuable and thoughtful in the future. We decided that we would advertise packaged original cards of the past that can be bought and directly sent to a loved one.
We also came up with the advertising paragraphs for each product which explained the items, their name and their value. Now itâs a matter of making all of these items, photographing them and accumulating them all into the pDF document.

Experimenting with visual representations of a force field barrier for the web component of our publication.
Barriers through bars, through partitions, through a sense of perceived danger, and barriers of smell and sight.

Minimal in profile and aesthetic. As if it could be âtaped onâ when installed.
Oddly satisfying water force field.
A space-age "force field" capable of protecting armoured vehicles and tanks by repelling incoming fire is being developed by British military scientists.

âWhen a threat from incoming fire is detected by the vehicle, the energy stored in the supercapacitor can be rapidly dumped onto the metal plating on the outside of the vehicle, producing a strong electromagnetic field.â
Inspiration for futuristic doors; their projective and optical illusionist capabilities.Â

Barriers Beyond the Body
In thinking about doors and their various forms (and how they may change in the future), I remembered something that I saw at my friendâs apartment in Hong Kong. My mateâs apartment complexâs had an adjoined leisure centre and the only way to enter the pool is via a corridor that leads from the bathrooms. At the end of this corridor, hanging in front of the opening into the pool area was a perforated track that functioned as a shower or ârain wall.â In order to enter the pool, you had to pass through this shower (more than likely, as a precautionary, sanitary measure)
This got me thinking about doors that arenât entirely physical - doors that arenât complete barriers. This door (similar to those pictures above) acted as a barrier for germs/dirt/etc. so what things could doors be a barrier for in the future?
Through our explorations in this assessment Iâm interested in looking at barriers door/security systems that will go beyond purely physical partitions and investigate meta-physical barriers.
Beyond this, and stemming from a discussion with Karin, this relates to a new idea about how to âcloseâ Sydneyâs freeway tunnels. Currently, in the event of the necessary closure, overhead signs tell drivers to 'STOPâ and not enter the tunnel. Despite this, drivers continue to enter the tunnel. To resolve this, water curtains have been installed which cover the entrance of the tunnel in a film of water which is able to be projected on. As this covers the entrances, drivers are more willing to stop - even though the water is completely passable.
