This LGBT gym is helping clients shape their bodies to match their identities

At the Perfect Sidekick, group classes begin with participants sharing their names and preferred pronouns. Instead of gender-segregated change rooms, there’s one big locker room open to folks of all gender identities. The gym’s staff is required to attend regular sensitivity training. In other words, it provides the opposite kinds of experiences queer people might have at mainstream gyms.

I was watching the Stonewall Uprising documentary and the name Marsha P. Johnson was not mentioned once considering she was a leader of the 1969 Stonewall Riots. So I felt like posting these Polaroids of her taken by Andy Warhol to show remembrance of her as the significant trailblazer that she was in making the Stonewall Riots happen. It’ll be 46 years since the riots on June the 28th and 45 years since the first gay pride march took place in New York City as a result of the Stonewall Riots. Thank you Marsha. RIP.

We’ve bought a new house. And our new next door neighbours (two delightful gentlemen) will not stop being nice. 

- bought us a seagull proof refuse bag (yes, they are actual things)

- loaned us garden tools when we didn’t have any

- invited us around for Friday night drinks so we could meet the other people on the lane

- one of them brought me a bunch of sweetpea flowers that he’d picked from his garden

- and tomorrow he’s coming to cut our hedge for us with his electric hedge trimmer thing idk, and all I have to do is hold the ladder.

Basically, I am UNSETTLED and am now having to enter into an arms race of niceness and I am already so behind oh god.

Long story short - I just baked a lemon drizzle cake, and it looks great but I can’t even eat it because MR AND MR NICE MUST RECEIVE AN OFFERING.

Did you know? Lesbians and male homosexuals would marry each other in Nazi Germany just to escape persecution? Queer history tho like I honestly am learning things everyday that shape my knowledge of what it means to be LGBT? Like did you know Malcolm X was bisexual? Did you know the Nazis persecuting homosexuals said they were protecting “traditional family values,” the same arguments used today by Republicans? Washington in the 1780s expelled several soldiers for engaging in consensual same-sex acts? FDR launched a plan in the 1920s where he forced young sailors to try and trap other sailors into sex? I think schools need to stop erasing queer history from social studies and queer literature from English classes. And also start teaching children to respect gay people at a young age, like grade five. That’s the only way I can see any change coming about…

Here’s a mini I made! It’s about testosterone, taking testosterone, and testosterone-based hormone replacement therapy. 

I’ve been taking testosterone injections for almost a year.  Ever since I started there have been a lot of people curious about the process but very aware of not wanting to cross lines/ask inappropriate questions/make assumptions.  Inspired by that I put together this little mini to describe parts of my experience. 

I wrote several disclaimers into the mini itself, but this is in no way a definitive piece- there is no universal “testosterone experience.”  There is also no one way to get an assessment/prescription for testosterone (unfortunately).  Also: Not everyone taking T is a binary trans man (in my experience that is the biggest assumption people make about being on T).
