me, finally getting a chance to say something Iāve thought about for twelve days straight: oh, hey, that reminds me, funny thing, this just came to mind but
maned wolves are just the Slenderman version of foxes
you are an itty bitty fox in an itty bitty foxhole and you creep gently out into the woods one night. the wind pulls up leaves (dry and dying) from the forest floor and sends them dancing, twisting (like something alive and deranged). the trees are whispering amongst themselves, gossiping as they do on stormy eves, and you tell yourself that you are alone, alone with the trees and the wind and the dark dark night.
and then you hear the rustling behind you. so you turn, of course you turn, on your little fox paws, to find it standing over you, impossibly long and bizarrely shaped, its distorted limbs bathed in moonlight:
THIS SHITWIT
GIRAFFE FOX
Even funnier: the maned wolfās closest living relative is the Bush Dog, i.e. this creature. A sausage with fur.
One species got all the legs.
PUDGE!!!
Maned wolves also have urine that smells so much like cannabis that someone reportedly called the cops to the zoo in Rotterdam to seek out the perpetratorā¦
what what WHAT
People keep searching for ways to argue that JK Rowling has always been a horrible person deep down as a way of explaining her recent behaviour.
But hereās the thing: thatās probably not true at all.
Pretending it is discounts the harsher, scarier truth: that even decent, well-meaning people can be radicalised by dangerous, hateful, predatory groups, and given enough time they can become truly hideous versions of their former selves.
It can happen to me. It can happen to you. It can happen to any of us, given the right mix of circumstances. And over the past few years, weāve seen it happen to one of the most famous childrenās authors of our age.
Nobody is immune.
So youāre saying that The Clown wasnāt always⦠outright evil?
No one is born evil
Wellā¦
Good point, but prejudice is best installed at a young age. Why is why I assumed the said Clown was just evil since some early part of their life.
What Iām saying is that JKR, like so many average people, very likely started off in a place of well-meaning ignorance. Then she started exploring new and different ideas being shared online. Some ideas resonated deeply with her experiences as an abuse survivor, so she began exploring them deeper. Then, wham, public backlash. Her trauma is triggered - but so is her curiosity. After all, if something she did or said set people off, maybe sheās onto something. So she starts exploring more. Starts asking more questions. And when she does this in public, there is always backlash. Meanwhile, however, in private, her new friends are telling her āSee? This is proof weāre right. This is proof that the world wants us silenced, because theyāre scared of the truth, and they really hate women that much.ā And what do you know, what theyāre telling her starts sounding more and more reasonable, especially since the outside world is becoming more and more hostile.
And round and round it goes, until you have a radical.
This is absolutely how radicalization works. I started out āI could never be a feminist, they hate kinkstersā (yes, this was a massive oversimplification) and within, oh, i think two years? i was saying āwell, i donāt like the overtones of āradical feministā but whatās so wrong with saying youāre a radical AND a feminist? we need to make sure thereās space for traumatized women who really do legitimately hate and fear men.ā When you become an extremist, you become UNRECOGNIZABLE even to YOURSELF.
#also JKR is just the most famous and most heinous case#there are MANY MANY young people being indoctrinated with the same ideals within the circles they found safety and community in#i do not care that JKR has been radicalised; i am far more worried about people not recognising the radicalising process#and how it invades queer and womenās communties to deliberately and actively create harmful environments#as disappointing and gross as JKR is; itās#itās important to recognise that radical ideologies (be they alt-right racism or TERFdom) are spreadĀ (via @wondersmith-and-sonsā)
There is also thisā¦.revisionist tendency to say that JKR has always been a closet bigot and conservative and right-wing since she got famous, but thatās not even entirely true.Ā One of her first major political stirrups was criticising Tory austerity measures and David Cameron,Ā (she also once said āpeople who send their children to boarding schools seem to feel that Iām on their side. Iām not.ā), donating to Labour and being openly supportive of the British welfare state. She has, in at least one interview (from 2000) self-proclaimed to be left-wing. As early as 2003, she claimed that one of her biggest writing influences was a Jessica Mitford, who Rowling described as a āself-taught socialistā.Ā
This isnāt to apologise for her behaviour or rehabilitate her into some former activist who is still worthy of saving; itās to contextualise her recent descent into TERFdom compared to her previous political stances sheās openly held. She was probably never going to be a staunch ally for equality and diversity, and yes, a lot of the HP series were very problematic in retrospect, but she could very easily have gone the other way and at the very least turned out to be less of a bigoted shitbag she is now. The fact that her politics in late 2000ā²s/early 2010ā²s were similar to so many people who are now activists and organisers for queer, BIPOC and vulnerable communities should tell us to be all the more careful about radfem ideology and transphobia in progressive spaces.Ā
Itās comforting to sayĀ āwe should have known in hindsight that she was always going to become a TERF, the early signs were all there!ā but thatās also not true. We have to recognise that the toxic ideology, the active harm she chooses to participate in, was a deliberate choice; this was a path she chose to go down, not one that was pre-determined for her. Itās also an easy way to separate ourselves from being critical of radfem influence; āJKR was always a right-wing bigot and thatās why she became indoctrinated with radfem bullshit. Iām not a right-wing bigot, therefore unlike her,Ā I will never fall for radfem bullshit.āĀ
People who become radicalised, including those to become radfems, were not always irredeemable right-winger proto-Conservatives doomed for extremism and hatred, and thatās the point.Ā The revisionist idea that she was always beyond salvaging erases how TERFs recruit people (especially vulnerable, impressionable people) in queer, progressive and liberal circles and how easily their dogwhistles can go undetected. The idea that JKR was already a closet right-winger from the get-go and therefore could never have been a good person is ultimately unhelpful because all it does it separate from the reality of how radfem doctrine spreads. TERFs sell their own toxic, harmful views packaged as progressive ideas as part of their strategy and thatās why their ideology is dangerous and requires constant vigilance to drive out.Ā
the presence of horrific racism in her writing isnāt indicative of her having always had a racist ideology, it just means sheās been pretty shit at recognizing her racist biases and preventing them from seeping into her writing. it doesnāt make the racial caricatures and character choices better, it just means she did not intend to be racist.
Tips for fight scenes
If you get punched in the nose your eyes will water, a lot, even if it didnāt really hurt
Your body follows your head, your head gets pushed one way and your body will want to go that way
Getting hit in the stomach isnāt good, it hurts, getting hit in the diaphragm is worse. Causes your lungs to kinda spasm and make it hard to breathe (diaphragm is between stomach and chest)
When fighting a larger person they will have an easier time forcing you back
The jaw is the knockout button. Hit it hard enough and down for the count
Back of the head is very vulnerable, can cause serious damage if hit there
Kidney punches. They hurt. A lot.
People with experience will try to be where they are comfortable. A wrestler will try to get their opponent on the ground, a boxer will stay on their feet, etc.
Easiest counter to a kick is to get closer to whoever is throwing it, then they wonāt have enough room for it to be effective
If you want realism, avoid fancy, flashy moves. Theyāre less practical and easier to counter.
I will definitely be using these tips in the future. I donāt write fight scenes very often, but given that Iāve never been in an actual fight of any sort ⦠yeah, definitely need to know this stuff for those scenes. Very helpful!
But remember: if youāre too close to kick, youāre in perfect range to knee.
Writing Body Language
How to Improve your writing
This is something that happens every day in your life. A shift of your eyebrow in skepticism, or the way your lip may twitch to a half smile cause youāre trying not to laugh. These behaviors are vital for writing in character, because not only do the allow you to visually see what is happening but it is also reaffirming whatever emotion your character is showing.
So why should you write it?
Much of human communication is non-verbal which means you need to also translate this non-verbal reaction in a post. It allows you to greatly enhance the emotions of another character and always another person to āvisuallyā see how they feel in a post. Most of all, this will add depth and volume to your post to make it feel more real. IT will make your character feel like a human instead of just another fictional person you look at from above.
Below you will find a list different type of emotions and what sort of body language can be exhibited to them.
Three ways to accent an action.
When writing about emotions, there are different ways to verbally write them out. Each one is unique in their own way, allowing you to show more about the emotion.
Emphasize the Emotion. But doing this, you are expressing both the emotion and the body language. Weāll use a simple example. Itās short and simple yet you can sense he is happy. John felt so happy that he was humming a tune while walking down the hall.
Complicate the Emotion. Sometimes, even when you are feeling one emotion, deep down rooted underneath the facade of it all, there is actually an underlining emotion they feel. This is something you have to truly express otherwise no one will know. John felt so happy that he was humming a tune while walking down the hall. However, it was obvious by the way his nose crinkled that he was disgusted by the actions beforehand. Instead, John covered it up by appearing pleased today.
Contradict the Emotion. This is a little different than complicate. Contradicting means that you are claiming oneĀ thing when in fact its the other. In many ways, this has a variety of uses, from inner depth of the truth to what you see in person, or someone creating a wall. It could be considered a lie, but when is anything that easy? John felt so happy that he was humming a tune while walking down the hall. In truth, once he was in the classroom, his shoulders slumped and a pout crossed his lips when no one was around, showing just how displeased he was with the situation.
Remember that you do not always have to contradict or complicate anything. Sometimes all you need to do is emphasize and that will be just fine. You donāt always have to have an underlining complicated for an emotion to make it more enhanced.
Do be afraid to use the Thesaurus to also improve an emotion. Such things as āhappyā is a nice emotional word, but think of how much more powerful it is when you heard some is āoverjoyedā or ācontent.ā She how these emotions matched up with a body language can give two different styles of happiness? Mix and match to find what works best for your character at the time.

This is excellent
āNope,ā I whisper as I exit out of a fic with no paragraph breaks.
No excuses, folks! Change paragraphs when:
- theĀ ācameraā moves - a new character shows up - someone speaks - someone else speaks - a new idea, subject, or topic is introduced - time passes or reverts to an earlier point - the setting changes - the mood shifts - you want to create dramatic effect
this is so so so more reader friendly, people, heed it!
Why are there ppl who legitimately care about queen elizabeth? Like what has she personally done for them that they care for her?
Okay, whatās the rest of yāallās excuses?

My dad is sitting and doodling in a My Little Pony colouring book with my two-year-old kid. He drew a blue sun, and when she coloured over it with her red crayon, he said, ānow itās a red dwarf and it has killed everyone in its solar system.ā She nodded solemnly.
This is an underrated joke
