I’ve been working on a deep dive into the Dandy’s World fandom and I wanted to talk about MOTM briefly (only briefly because I also wanna make a video on it separately) and wanted to ask was there a major reason Shelly was chosen as a major character out of the “Main Toons”? Did you guys consider this a chance to do your own spin on the character or rather expand the things you liked about her in the game? Is there any fun Behind The Scenes details you can share about her creation? Thanks in advance!!

So in the original comic, Felix is apart of the group. He acts as the scholar, the guide, the researcher and the protector. However, in our opinion, his placement felt... off. He was 10 years older than the rest of the group, as well as rendering the rest of the cast (except bendy) lowkey useless. They didn't have any reason to be there once he joined. The cupbros were there to protect them, boris was there to see the map, and Bendy was there as the "Chosen one" suffering an ill fate (Even though he and boris could both see the map.) Felix took all of their roles. Why would he need to bring any one else but bendy along now?
We needed to fix the group dynamic. It was thrown WILDLY off balance.
Shelly is a character we didn't have much to go off of. The main reasons we added her was
1) She's very studious on history and very knowledgable on random facts that we could translate into a love for history (rather than just dinosaurs)
2) We needed someone who could even out the group dynamic. Her personality was very cute we just exaggerated it some for the crew. Its nice to have a bit of a less-edgy palette cleanser than just our emotionally repressed red cup.
3) To be completely honest with you: I wanted a girl in the group. I hated how the whole team was JUST dudes. But trust me there's more to her than that, but i shant spoil her plot :]
All in all she was also one of the main toons that we felt needed a bit more. She's obviously one or the fan favorites in Dandy's World, with her shortcomings being the main benefactor of this.
Shelly is hard to grasp as, at the time of writing this, We haven't gotten a lore video on her yet. And she's barely appeared in any of the promotional material. This could be a marketing thing done on purpose to perpetuate her lore of being the forgotten main, But i can't lie and say it wasn't hard to write her.
There was a TON Of pit falls we did NOT want to risk getting trapped in, as it goes with writing any female character. We had sheba, oona, and a bunch of other girls to fall back on for people to trust our writing of, but it's daunting. Shelly is a very silly, bubbly and "girly" character, something that was done on purpose. But we've been scared to have people think we are reducing her to "Girl of the group" because that is NOT AT ALL what we are going for.
Quest for the ink machine was, to put it lightly, terrible when it came to women. Every girl was there to bolster a man's storyline, or worse, be hit on. They were ALL plot devices. The three main girls that got a semblance of plot were
1) Sheba: Was only there to be Felix's best friend, boost Felix's morale, and then she left.
2) Francine Cottontail: A victim of (a very shallowly written imo) abuse that i speculate was going to end in a WhiteKnight Cuphead saving her
3) Alice Angel: A cute and bumbling angel that accidentally got her and her friends into deep trouble
While Alice's plotline was endearing and interesting, the rest of the women were one-note and shallow.
Rewiring this was going to be. Difficult. To say the least.
In the early days of the fandom we ran into a bit of a "Casual Misogyny" crisis as we introduced Pomni and Jessica as the stars (leaders) of their respective branches of the government. We got FLOODED with questions of
"Where's roger rabbit? Why isn't he the leader?"
"Why isn't Caine/Kinger/Jax the Leader? Why pomni?"
it got to a point we had to address it publicly. Not to shame anyone! Just to call out some biases people may have had.
It was definitely something that scared us about shelly's introduction, and even today we still have people in our inbox angrily raising pitch forks at "Replacing Felix" and "I hate Dandy's world." To each their own but it can come across as... Side-eye worthy to not even let Shelly have a chance.
Point is, at the end of the day, Shelly was a perfect fit to what we wanted to tackle. We're not perfect, and we aren't some "Pinnacle of Feminist literature" writers, nor will we ever claim to be. Fly and I learn something new and change stuff about our writing style every day.
Shelly is going to be a challenge, but she's worth it in my eyes. I hope everyone will give her a chance :]
Edd Doesn't Exist au but I gave it an actual plot where Matt is the main character

Basically Matt Edd Tom and Tord were all friends, childhood friends ofc and they were all pretty close. Unfortunately as time went on they grew apart and time moves forward
we follow matt as he's struggling to find his footing as he's been kinds cut off from old money, and he gets a paper and see's his old pal Laurel has gotten a job as a PI or a Lawyer and is like "Oh hey good for her"
however in the bg he see's edd, and is like "Heyy Edd!! I haven't talked to him in a while. Maybe we could help eachother out!"
He hops on "Totallynotnewgrounds" and goes to their old messages and
nothing.
matt's like "Damn must have deleted his acc. Maybe i can find him on"
- Linked in: nothing
- Facebook: nada
- Insta, you name it: He's gone.
Eventually he's going a little crazy and he straight ip searches records like school yearbooks and his own damn scrap book: Nothing. No pictures. No mentions. Nothing at all
Now matt's freaking out bc what the fuck did i mandela hallucinate an imaginary friend
Eventually he gets the idea to search up his old friend, but when he searches him up: a criminal record in norway appears and he's like "what the fuck"
so he goes to Laurel in a moment of curiosity and they chat and have a nice time but then when they reminice, she says "Oh yeah, you and your friends what scamps. You three were the funniest"
FOUR!! THERE WERE FOUR!
Laurel excuses it as she had a concussion a while back and must not be remembering. Matt is like "I KNOW!! IT WAS EDD WHO THREW THE SHOE!!!"
And shes like "Who tf is edd?"
Matt realizes that a lot of their stories don't add up. and asks laurel to get any information on Edd .
Laurel comes back and says "There is no one who goes be "Edd Venture" here. There's an Eduardo!"
"Oh your ex?"
"I never dated an Eduardo..?"
Matt's freaking out.
Eventually Laurel comes back with the papers on his old Norwegian friend, and hears that he's got a fake identity by the name of "Tord" now.
Laurel is suspicious, but says she won't touch the case unless She's paid. After all, "Tord" is very rich now.
Matt, curious, looks into "Tord N. Shields" Files and finds out that he works with Tom. Tom! His old friend Tom Arrow!
That could be a lead!
They work on-
... well matt didn't expect this but hey a lot of highschool tension makes sense now.
After plot shenanigans and more lore bits that i'm too lazy and fly-less to talk abt, Matt visits their film company and finds Tom and Tord.
Surprisingly, they are actually happy to see matt and would like to catch up in the short break time they have in-between shoots.
Matt asks about Edd and finally...
Tom and Tord remember Edd. Matt could cry with relief.
Matt tells them the whole story.
Tord snaps his fingers and he's like "Maybe he's running from something! I've erased myself before! It's not too hard!"
Matt's like "???" so Tord tells him his story.
Turns out Tord fled his country after he embezzled funds from his publishing company who bought his old comics and used it to create an army and attempted to take over norway. he was arrested and tried but before he could get incarcerated, he fled the country, changed his name, and with no other option, married Tom to get a green card to stay.
matt is looking at the camera like in the office.
But there were records of Tord still available. There was at least mentions and photos of him in yearbooks and pictures of him
But none of Edd.
That catches their suspicion. Now its weird. The only picture of Edd in existence is this newspaper that Matt keeps carrying around.
Tom and Tord tell matt about some weird phenomenons that they've seen/experienced and even felt recently.
Matt starts logging them down.
Eventually tomtord tell Matt to stay with them for a bit bc lovingly he looks like shit. Sleep bro.

I genuinely just realized how well you’ve written bendy. Like I always thought he was well written but didn’t know why. And it’s because you write him like how someone with chronic illness thinks. Chronically ill people have to be selfish to survive it’s not about being good or bad. Chronically ill people need to be selfish or there health can decline rapidly and possibly in the hospital. And I’m speaking from experience on that one. But bendy does it also when there no cost as well because doing so is what kept him alive. Like when he’s tugging on the chain with cuphead he’s being cruel and inconsiderate to the person who essentially saved him because to show consideration at all would leave him vulnerable to simply be respectful to cuphead. Also I like the line “ they deserve to die!” About the cupbros because bendy view them as strictly a threat to his life unlike Boris who wants to see the person inside. Again showing that need to focus on one’s own survival over the bigger picture. Another is when Dyle died. Before that happened bendy was actually helping Dyle move the shipment even though it was putting bendy in danger until bendy realized how severe the danger was and said he not risking his life for the shipment. Which I think shows bendy desire to actually be dyles friend. But when Dyle got caught and unable to leave that need to be selfish to survive came back strong. Bendy says he wants to live. Which is basically saying this isn’t personal. And after he’s sends Dyle to his doom he later says there was nothing I could do. Which is true he couldn’t if he tried the both probably would just die.
I also want to talk about mugman for a sec because he’s like the opposite of bendy. Where as bendy to existent owns he does bad thing to survive. Bendy literally believes being a good person is just someone who gets taken advantage of. Where as I think mugman thinks he’s a good person but has to do bad things because he forced to do so. He refuses to take accountability and plays victim in every scenario. My favorite examples of this when he punches goob and basically say not my fault because I’m the victim of the world. Which when goob lets him go once he realizes mugman not gonna hurt anyone and says now mugman can make his own choices. And mugman is in disbelief like he was just given a gift he doesn’t know what to do with. And feels like this is the beginning of a shift in mugman world view. That not everything in this world is evil or out to get him. It’s still cruel but there good in it too. Another moment is when Boris accidentally tugs mugman when trying to alert mugman of danger. Mugman automatically starts accusing Boris of doing on purpose and trying to use that as way to prove Boris is even some how where as Boris has shown nothing but mercy and patience with mugman. It shows that mugman believes everyone is out to get him.
That was bit of word vomit so to summarize it:
- bendy is well written for how a chronically I’ll person thinks
- mugman is well written for character who is stripped of choice for so long genuinely believes he doesn’t have choices anymore.
- bendy is always making sure he’s on top so he can never be a victim
- mugman believes he always the victim so he can handle his bad actions
I just realized they are both self centered and selfish and just use different reasons to justify it to protect them.
