So Luke lost control over his dragon as it burnt Vhagar without his permission. Immediately Aemond loses control over Vhagar and she proceeds to kill both Luke and his dragon. The dragons acted as though both dragon riders were not there. They're animals so their instict was to fight and attack back.

While I would have loved Aemond choosing to kill Luke, I do like that this change shows the Targaryens are not demigods. They barely have control over their dragons

Even with the presiding mentality that the boys “lost control of their dragons” it absolutely erases the responsibility of the rider both physically and emotionally

Aemond chased that boy into the sky with blatant blood lust - he laughed maniacally and screamed about dismembering him - dragons have a connection to their riders and Aemond’s anger became Vhagar’s so for Aemond to act surprised that she did that seems either ignorant or disingenuous.

We have never seen in any canon source of a dragon willfully taking to the sky and killing another dragon on its own- this came from the rider and I refuse to absolve Aemond of this “accident” when he brought Vhagar into the clouds in the first place …

On this note, wouldn’t that also be a reason why Harry would have had a more negative reaction than his friends (even Ginny)? He was hearing his mother’s voice as she was protecting him, which in itself was his worst memory. but the Dementors were also forcing the piece of Voldemort to relive its worst memory as well… The memory of being ripped apart by the curse that backfired. No wonder Harry passed out so often.

Here I was, just eating a cup of applesauce under the 14-year-long assumption that the reason a small infant was able to remember something was because this was a fictional world of magic, but no, now this entirely reasonable and somewhat less terrifying bubble has burst and I’m never going to recapture that innocence.
