ok listen. i know a lot of people prefer Eluréd and Elurín dying the mortal way and i understand why. however nimloth is my blorbo and i will cheerfully ignore the more impactful version of the story to give her a happier ending rentfree in my brain lives a scenario where the twins are re-embodied along with Nimloth, so Elwing one day opens her door to find her mother (who is now younger than she is) and her brothers (who are the exact same age Elrond and Elros were when she lost them). the potential for angst here is so multilayered. Nimloth trying to raise her kids (who died, which has to come with its own challenges) while the kid she didn't get to raise is right there. Elwing doing her best to help while trying not to see her own twins in them and being constantly afraid she's replacing them. One of them lost her children and kept her husband and vice versa. They both feel so guilty about so many things. They both try not to feel resentful about so many things. They're both so traumatized and trying to hide it because they don't want to put even more on the other (they both think the other had it worse). the messy bittersweetness of it all

"trajna-nina, armageddon-nona" - nonsensical, nursery-rhyme-like fragment with the word "armageddon" in it (because for SOME PEOPLE, armageddon (= nuclear threats) is just like a child-play)

"mama ljubila morona" ("mom kissed a moron") - "mama" is actually Mother Russia. I don't think I need to explain who's the moron.

"mama, ja se idem igrat', mama, idem u rat ("mom, I'm going to play, mom, I'm going to war") - self-explanatory

"onaj mali psihopat, mali, podli psihopat" ("that little psychopath, that little, vile psychopath") - if you know who's the moron, it's also self-explanatory

their costume - mixing military-style uniforms with make-up and skirts - actually makes fun of russia's anti-lgbt+ policies :)

So this shot at the beginning of Episode 1:

I’ve been rewatching series 1, and it occurred to me - belatedly - that maybe this helmet is Celeborn’s? The way this scene comes straight after that one of Finrod in battle almost seems like a bit of cinematographic sleight-of-hand, suggesting that the helmet belongs to him. Except Finrod isn’t wearing a helmet in the previous scene. Which isn’t to say he couldn’t have been wearing a helmet, and it was knocked off during the fighting - but it would be a strange choice to associate a character with something we never see him wearing. And Galadriel’s later reference to him being killed in a “place of darkness and despair” sounds more like a nod to his canonical death in the dungeons of Tol-in-Gaurhoth than a death on the battlefield.

On the other hand, we know that she last saw Celeborn heading off to war, and his armour was - uh - distinctive (silver clam! <3). So it would make sense that it would be in her mind, and that it would catch her eye while she was searching the ground after the battle.

(Incidentally, did that mound of helmets put anyone else in mind of the Hill of the Slain? Not the same thing, obviously, but I thought it had a similar vibe. Maybe Celeborn went with Beleg and Mablung to join the Union of Maedhros, and disappeared during the Nirnaeth?)
