Gotta love how ZK fans bring up that ZK was brought up in the writer's room as a possibility and then use that as evidence that Zuko and Katara were supposed to be canon. The irony of getting called out for saying that and then calling everybody who disagreed with them ignorant. I swear these people don't understand that just because you ship something doesn't mean it WILL become canon. Oh yeah, and I found this discussion in the comments of a KA reel. What happened to staying in your own lane?

Once again, Toph was originally going to be a boy to have a love triangle with Katara and Aang, while Iroh was going to be a twist villain, Azula was going to be Zuko's older brother, and Suki was supposed to be a one-off character.

There's also silly things like a storyboard of the cabbage guy officiating the wedding between Azula and Haru, or the showrunners suggesting several ships to fans, like Iroh with both Li and Lo, or Azula with the Blue Spirit (aka Zuko, her brother).

"Writer likes Y" and "voice actor mentioned Z" don't change the simple fact that X is what ended up being actually written and included into the show, and thus X is the only thing that is canon. Zutarians need to get over themselves.

I genuinely think the only way Zutara could work in canon is when Zuko and Katara are old and dusty and maybe they have a little old people fling. Old people deserve to fall in love again too and getting married again after the loss of your lover is valid. But I don't think I've ever seen a Zutara shipper tackle this idea and definitely not with the nuance and care that this topic would need. They can't conceive of the idea of Katara EVER having loved Aang so this idea probably infuriates them even if again it would be the only semi-realistic way to make Zutara work while keeping canon in mind. Do I think these two characters would actually hook up in old age? Probably not. But if they want the ship that bad and they want it to be "canon" this would be the way to write it.

I think the only way Zutara could work in canon is that it wouldn't.

Friendly reminder that the fact a couple is LGBT doesn't erase abuse. You can still be a victim of serious abuse, by a monster, and need to escape your abuser and find your voice, freedom, and independence away from them. Yeah. And Ty Lee didn't want to even travel with her. Ty Lee was brought away from her life where she was *happy* because Azula felt like she wanted company and Ty Lee was her personal property.

You want to ship her with a girl? Go nuts. Idc. Ship her with one of the girls giggling on the beach at Zuko for all I care.

and don't tell me, "oh well mai specifically said she loved zuko more than she feared azula" you know why she said that??? because azula was slipping mentally. ty lee and mai saw that. they, for once, couldn't agree with azulas methods and ideology.

in the beach; there is a specific line where azula says something along the lines of, "im so used to these people worshipping us." and you know what ty lee FLAT OUT SAYS? so bluntly she says, "yes, and they should!" afterwards azula agrees and states that she loves it.

i wrote a whole essay about tyzula in the beach episode and how azula does care and appreciate ty lee. in a short sense it went something like this;

azula is mean which causes ty lee to get upset which is when azula comforts ty lee which is something we don't see her do to ANYONE except zuko. she literally apologizes. im very positive that this is the first, if not only, apology we actually hear from azula. azula even admits her insecurities to ty lee about being jealous. when do we see that again? fucking never. actually never.

and the mirror scene where ursa scolds azula for using fear, azula becomes extremely distressed. she loves ty lee and mai. the only reason the image of ursa brings it up is because ursa is a manifestation of azulas insecurities and intrusive thoughts. it's obvious in the comics too but i won't get into that can of worms.

it's actually sad because you don't go reading actual tyzula shippers arguments about this sort of stuff. even then it's so blatantly in your face that azula genuinely does love and care for ty lee.

Honestly you're the example of the #fandumb tag , people like you disgust me, ty lee was clearly just acting to stay in the line, she didn't act usual after azula threatened her life during her own show, her praises to her were clearly just survival tactics to please her ego rather than genuine admiration, after the show ty lee doesn't give a sh*t about azula nor wants to be around her ass at all but rather immediately chi blocked her as she did something a bit threatening to zuko while she was literally restrained, and later ty lee says that she couldn't even keep a peaceful aura because of her fear toward azula who is roaming around free

Voice actors can ship any ship they like, that doesn't change anything at all, even jack desena stated that he likes the zukka shipping, and yeah she ships zucest too, most voice actors ship zutara which never happened

Tyzula isn't my favorite ship, but it's very understandable why Ty Lee might find Azula attractive? And understandable why she might care about Azula? Like, did you miss just about all things Ty Lee says about Azula in the series?

Well to me it sounded like survival tactics to stay in the line, except for the beach episode part, but you're right that tyzula fics should point out why ty lee is inspired by azula and is loyal to her

There's a lot of room for interpretation about Ty Lee and her relationships, since we see her so little, but we have every reason to think that she genuinely thinks highly of Azula and admires her. Azula is a pretty amazing person and we're told that she tends to be very well liked in the Fire Nation, not to mention that Azula is unique and the center of attention in, something Ty Lee wishes Ty Lee had herself.

Agreed, though, that a Tyzula fic needs to explore why Ty Lee likes Azula, along with why Azula likes Ty Lee. "they're in love" just doesn't cover it.

I would also like to add that another possible reason why Ty Lee would like Azula is that she actually treats her seriously as a person. Because of Ty Lee's personality, she's often dismissed as the naive, stupid, pretty one. Both Zuko and Mai even make jabs at her for this in The Beach.

And even then, Azula doesn't view Ty Lee's disposition as a negative thing. She found Ty Lee's way with men enviable, even taking her advice on the topic.

Another example of this (though I will admit this could be me reaching) was at the drill:

She peers through a periscope at several Earth Kingdom troops using earthbending to create large trenches, Fire Nation forces following them in hot pursuit. Qin: [Strikes the periscope roughly alarming Ty Lee.] Please. The drill's metal shell is impervious to any earthbending attack.

Azula: Oh, I'm sure it is, War Minister Qin, but just to be on the safe side ... [Sharply while looking at the two girls.] Mai and Ty Lee, take the earthbenders out!

Minister Qin dismisses Ty Lee's comment while Azula takes her into consideration.

For Ty Lee, someone who grew up with 6 identical sisters, having someone like Azula not only see and understand her but also validate what she has to offer? We are talking about THE most beloved firenation princess, the most beautiful, smartest, perfect girl in the world, finding something worthy about HER for reasons beyond being part of a matched set. That is Ty Lee's dream.

azula respected both mai and ty lee's skills and opinions, but mostly for her own good, why else was she asking mai about her opinion for betraying her meanwhile she did not ask ty lee anything and was just still angry when she caught off her guard with her sudden attack, even if ty lee thought high of azula that doesn't mean she will like her or want to be around her

After azula endangers her during her own show, she doesn't act usual around azula, and is just acting , her compliments toward her (good one azula), (nice speech azula it was very poetic but also scary in a good way), (azula you're right it is the avatar), (gosh you're so confident I really admire that about you), were more to pease her ego rather than genuine admiration [but I doubt about the beach episode's part], because ty lee was forced to join her and was looking for a fake reason pretending to be willingly join her "the universe gave me a strong hint that its time for career change"

In boiling rock part 2 ty lee looks at her with a grudge in her eyes when azula orders the guards to throw her and mai away from her sight to rot

This shows how she really thinks of azula,

In the beach episode before zuko lashing out at ty lee there is this moment where zuko tries to comfort mai by "are you cold?" but mai slaps his hand and ty lee steps in "Iam freezing!!" and then zuko smiles and tells her that he will make a fire,

This shows that zuko cares about ty lee and ty lee might've had some interests in zuko too due to her later disappointment reaction for not giving her perhaps attention , but he was overwhelmed by his identity when he burnt the painting of his family and felt that ty lee dismissed his pain for assuming things she does not know and assuming that he cares about his family because he did not have a good experience with his family, mai literally tells zuko to back off when he lashes out at ty lee while azula laughed at her for being called a circus freak, and as you said by yourself azula was jealous of her ability to attract boys and called her by ignorant and tease, and ty lee encourages her to be with a boy with no problem, so why both of them will be interested in each others?

In the comics things are worse

Ty lee immediately goes chi blocking azula as she does something a bit threatening without even zuko wanting her to do it

Ty lee couldn't even keep a peaceful aura because of azula as she knows that azula is still roaming around and is afraid that she might suddenly show up punishing her

In azula in the spirit temple, ty lee is very mad at azula's presence, and later azula tells the illusion of ty lee that she had no life and was just a nobody circus freak performing for peasants, and azula still imagines her as a goofy unserious person in her imagination
