Apparently I made a really big hot take on a tik tok comment section and the fact that there are people who are liking my comment shows that there is validity to my opinion it's just that some people are just so stuck on a ship that they aren't willing to see the message because they don't want to actually try to grasp what I'm saying....
And this is going to be more of a rant.
So I get off topic at some point because I have adhd

Mal and Ben do have potential as a ship but the way they are written is so.... Bad
But I want to get to the point of why everyone's mad at my comment.
I feel like everyone has probably heard about that one guy who reviews movies and he had a really bad take on obsession. And he basically compared what Bear did to being okay because now basically did the same thing to Ben and it's a harmless crush...
And the person who made the video got so mad that he made that comparison. But honestly let's be super frank well now isn't Bear. She did a similar thing to what he did and she took away Ben's bodily autonomy and actively warped his brain.
Considering how common collective Ben usually ask I highly doubt that if he naturally fell in love with Mal without a potion he wouldn't have randomly just burst into song and that show that he was acting very out of character.
On top of that he completely disregarded his relationship with Audrey and didn't even bother actually breaking up with her but just professed love for a whole other person.
And I feel like I can't stand how this fandom is so hypocritical when it comes to subtext. Because people also want to use subtext when it comes to how creepy male characters can come off but won't do it for the female characters at all.... People will make excuses like oh but it's a Disney movie... But oh they totally didn't do "it" or she's literally a villain that's what they do....
And it's like no that's very hypocritical of you all just because they're girls doesn't mean that they're innocent.
If you want to use the excuse that she's a villain you have to acknowledge that the actions are wrong and that they're evil.
If you want to use the excuse that she's a villain then you also have to acknowledge that Jafar is also a villain and he wanted the genie to make a 16 year old girl fall in love with him.
But this isn't just about saying now was a bad person for doing that
This isn't even to say that she's even pervert.
Because I can also acknowledge that now didn't even have romantic interest in bed and personally all it seems like they had chemistry as far as banter I don't even feel like the love story feels like a love story from Mal.
It honestly feels more like a girl who is so touch starved and starved of love and affection it felt more like she just went along with the romance. Hence why there's conflict in the next movie someone just threw love at her and she has lived life without any love or affection so of course she goes along with it not knowing what loving been would entail which is why she felt the need to run away later on.
But back to the whole comparison of obsession with the love spell... She took away a guy's bodily autonomy and write to choose and altered his brain. And even though she didn't reciprocate feelings. I don't think you guys would feel comfortable with this situation and the power and balance if Mal was a guy and Ben was a girl.
Especially since this is the foundation of their romantic story. 100% if the worlds were reversed and this was some type of romantic story pushed on webtoon somewhere you guys would be writing think pieces.
And I feel like the main aspect as to why them being pushed romantically along with the love spell is this ONE fact
She is never held accountable for doing that in any way in the plot of the first movie. Nobody calls her out on it she faces no repercussions.
Ben literally made up an excuse for her.
He basically gave her an out by saying she must have did it because she didn't know how to profess her love for him....
Which is so stupid and nonsensical considering that she only knew him for a few days.
They literally strip that man of brain cells and common Sense.
He has more of a realistic reaction to his autonomy being stripped away when he was getting mad at her for not being a trad wife who knew how to cook....
Also to just give contexts to some of the hypocrisy I find within this fandom. People will say that it's implied that Chad was using Evie for "sexual favors" which is why he so freaking evil apparently....
Which honestly I find that it's super stupid.
Because all man wanted was a good grade.
But if we want to go there when it comes to what's implied I feel like a lot more sinister things are implied when a person's put under a magical spell and made to act very much unlike themselves to suit the agenda of someone else....
And here's another hot take that I have also mentioned before I find the concept of Evie who literally in the first song basically talks about how she's a master manipulator who hurts people's feelings is easily taken advantage of by your prince who she actively sought out to use for financial gain.
Because those were her intentions when interacting with Chad girl was literally trying to ask him about his riches
But this isn't even about them.
The main point of my take is the room is between Mal and Ben is really poorly written and I feel like it tells the wrong messages.... And people will make excuses like that it's a Disney movie and it's fine but a lot of us were kids when we were watching this movie and it literally has y'all believing in double standards.
Not to mention I remember reading fanfictions of the time were descendants was fresh and new and a lot of y'all were literally using that spell is a way to push other ships. Literally read a fanfiction that ended on a cliffhanger of Mal literally using that type of magic on one of her other friends that she was in love with in the story to do things....
Which gives the fact that some of y'all actually can understand that using a love spell is super creepy.
And I feel like no one ever touched on the fact that it was something put in this man's food. I feel like this actually makes it worse in that context.
You put an unknown substance into someone's food with the intention that they consume it. "And fall in love with you"
That person is then goaded into eating the food and they don't know that this substance is in there. They think that this food is regular food therefore they can only consent to eating what they know is the food.
They did not consent to eating food with a love potion in it
Very similar to how a woman or man cannot consent to drinking any substance that has a drug in it because it was done without their consent.
Which is why people get arrested for doing that.
Because even though this is Disney I feel like we need to acknowledge that stealing items is petty theft
What Mal did would be on the worst end of the felony spectrum.
And there's a long spectrum of what can be considered a felony
And I want y'all to be so for real... Would you guys be able to fall in love with anyone and trust them if in the beginning of your relationship you realize that they put something in your food without your consent?
It doesn't matter if when you try to engage with simple romantic intimacy like kissing and they pulled away. (Because that's another excuse they made in that comment section...)
I want y'all to look me in the eye and tell me that's something you would do.
Someone you already have some chemistry with put something in your food that made you act very unlike yourself. Altered your brain to the point that you are irrationally in love with them.
Would you be able to trust that person. And would your response be "oh I know that you only did this because you were too shy to tell me that you actually liked me."
Tell me you would with a straight face
If not you got your answer
But yeah just to make something totally clear I'm not saying that she assaulted Ben the whole point of my comment and this rant is to say what she did to him was unconsensual and very creepy.
But the only thing that actually makes is creepy is the fact that they're pushed as a romantic couple because in any other situation this would just look like a horror movie. And this was pushed towards kids which actually makes that worse.
And I feel like more people just get up in arms about my take on this simply because it's bashing their favorite ship. And all I got to say to that is I really don't care.

Descendants isn't a masterpiece in the slightest
It's a fun movie trilogy but it's horrible in so many ways it depicts things. In another bowl take is to say that the guy behind it Kenny always had issues when it came to writing certain narratives and if anything it's a simple trademark of his writing style.
