“Power Never Sleeps” by Dariana Arias©️

Power never sleeps:
It remains officiously busy
eyelids never close
ears open
feet always moving…
It is like three red stars
standing on two red bars
on a white background;
when I tried to approach it
it became an obtuse architect
and built rigid towers
one-way streets
and dead-end labyrinths
until it got me lost…
It became too busy for its own sake
and sang lullabies
so all its neighbors would fall asleep;
and then it happened
that graveyard shift workers
dreamers
and insomniacs
gathered culture, convictions and economics
and with three basic materials
built a futon for Power to sit on…
But Power never sleeps
it daydreams
drinks coffee
and practices mindfulness
while sitting on its new futon;
and those who don’t get lost
while approaching it
get invited to join it:
clowns wearing no makeup
officials looking for missing ballots
noiseless party attendees
and lawless attorneys…
Collectively
lawless clowns & silent parties
make use of moralistic discourse
to keep Power in its rightful place
and them as it’s lawful companions
Of course!
But Power never sleeps
It just sings lullabies
And puts its neighbors to sleep.
