Yeah.
I believe Katsuki wouldve taken Izuku's hand, and canonically part of the problem was that Izuku was definitely too in his own head.
However, I understand why he would doubt himself and why he chose the safer option.
One fact remains true and consistent throughout the kidnapping arc:
Katsuki wanted to be saved.
He didnt want to wait for it to happen - so he did what he could even though he was scared. But when All Might showed up he was near tears happy about it, and when he saw his friends reached out to him, he was just happy he had a way out.
You can ask this question in reverse with Izuku and the Dark Deku arc for the answer.
Would Izuku have taken Katsuki's hand if Katsuki threw himself into the fray to grab him instead of Iida?
Yes, probably. But Katsuki made the safer choice he felt okay about for the other person’s sake.
I think the point of both these moments is to show that the two of them mutually yearn to bridge that gap in their relationship but are scared of the uncertainty still between them.
That uncertainty creates risky variables they aren't willing to take on for their own personal desires.
Because let's keep in mind, after the kidnapping arc Katsuki went to Izuku about his feelings concerning All Might's downfall and blaming himself for it.
Even though their relationship was fraught Katsuki still chose to go to Izuku about a really vulnerable feeling he was having in desperation.
Readers subconsciously operate under Ochako's assumption that “Katsuki would be humiliated” or that his ego would be bruised if everyone went to help him.
The story then says:
No, he was scared and wanted to be saved.
Everyone including the press were demonizing him, hes just a kid.
So if the characters in the story are getting that wrong, and Izuku’s own distorted memories (influenced by other people) were the thing finalizing his decision making - then he was probably wrong about that too.
