First of two art submissions I did for the 2026 "April Fools Volume 4" 主足 zine; this one is "Anatomy". This was my first time participating in a zine. Thanks for having me!

Zine Link / Zine Tumblr It's an anatomical diagram of Adachi's eyeball, but there might be more than what meets the eye... ...which I'll be pointing out here, since I had to compress the image to fit on Tumblr!

-> The Persona 4 protagonist is hiding in Adachi's optic disc, also known as the eye's blind spot. (Spoilers for Persona 4 below this point)

-> Similarly, that's actually Ameno-Sagiri hiding in plain sight. He hijacked Adachi's eyeball! What a troublemaker! -> The vitreous humor has somehow turned into virtuous fog...

I got anatomical inspiration for this piece from the incredible back cover of the 2012 主足 同人誌 『MORBUSADMORTEM』 (出版社: WTH). (By the way, I am still searching for a copy of this doujin. Please let me know if you'd be willing to part with yours.)

The theme of the zine was "Layers", so I immediately thought of vision processing, before having a "heywaitaminute" realization about the optic disc and its ability to hide the protagonist. That's when I knew I had to go for it. I'm not used to cross-hatching, but Alphonse Demarle's works were very helpful references. Anatomy diagrams are pretty fun. I learned a lot!

The more I chew on the idea of going back and finishing my accomplice end series (three of swords / downpour), the more I actually want to completely re-write them with the same bones... My writing style has changed so much since 2018 and my tastes have shifted too. I want everyone to be a bit shittier and dirtier; and I think I shied away too much from some of the nastier implications. It was good practice, and I still love those fics, but I write those things better now.

There were supposed to be two more fics. Yosuke's POV was next, taking place over the fall, then Adachi's to cap it off in winter. And it's funny -- I was always fascinated with Adachi/Souji but at the time I couldn't really see them being together long term, so in this version of the accomplice end they were supposed to end up with other people (Dojima and Yosuke respectively) but be like deeply unhappy in those relationships and still obsessed with each other. Unhappy endings for everyone!

Yeah, I still want everyone to be unhappy, but now I'm much more invested in Adasou than anything else. I want Adachi and Souji to live codependently ever after once their attempts at having other relationships blow up spectacularly, because the way things shake out in accomplice end mean they've completely lost their chance to have anything stable with anyone else. Also, I totally should have had Souji bang Dojima, why did I tease that and then not commit to it?

So the intent has changed, my writing has changed, it's been eight years, rewrite incoming. Of course, I've just started writing three other adasou fics, so who knows...
