Bleeding Heart Stickers
You know those pieces that you just can't let go off? That's the original "Bleeding Heart" piece for me. Originally a wood block on handmade paper, this art work speaks about my grandfather who cursed those "bleeding heart liberals." He hated tree huggers and hippies and those on welfare and women's lib and anything else that didn't confirm with his rural Colorado beliefs. I never understood what was so wrong about caring for other people or the planet.
"Bleeding Heart" is a series but this was one was the genesis of the rest of the work. I've sold every edition but one and the original hangs in my living room.
I wanted to share the work though, it speaks so strongly to me and I hope to others with similar experiences and feelings. These stickers are a small way to share that open heart, that raw heart that sees suffering and bleeds for it.
