Japanese geisha, actress and singer Sadayakko (or Sada Yacco) as Ophelia. Photographed in 1905.
One thing about the Euros is that the English still haven’t quite adjusted to the Queen dying so during the national anthem they keep singing “God Save The Quing” like there’s a non-binary monarch on the throne.

Andrew Scott for Buzzfeed Celebs (April 2024)
The beautiful song Stephan Jänicke (Anton von Lucke) translates for his deaf parents in S1E3 of Babylon Berlin, the magnificent German TV series (definitely up there with my favorite scenes of the whole show). The lyrics, based on a poem by Friedrich Rückert, in German and English below. Performed by the legendary German mezzo-soprano Christa Ludwig with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
In meinem Lieben, in meinem Lied!
I am lost to the world
With which I used to waste much time;
It has for so long known nothing of me,
It may well believe that I am dead.
Nor am I at all concerned
If it should think that I am dead.
Nor can I deny it,
For truly I am dead to the world.
I am dead to the world’s tumult
And rest in a quiet realm!
I live alone in my heaven,
In my love, in my song!

After a long stretch of Grace stepping up and saving the day by writing the articles, Laura is back and excited to talk about Golden Orchid
The Golden Orchid Society was a collection of organizations in South China that began during the Qing dynasty and existed from approximately 1644 to 1949 when they were banned because they were associated with an attempt to overthrow the Manchu Emperor. Over 300 years, however, they created an order of women who stood in solidarity with other women against heterosexual marriages that were oppressive at best and far too often abusive. While some of the women may have been heterosexual and avoided marriage for reasons unrelated to their sexuality, the association clearly made a space for members who were lesbians or bisexuals. Queer women found the safety and family in the Golden Orchid Society that their biological relatives had often never provided them.

Former fireman comes out as gay in obituary
"i was in a loving and caring relationship with paul cavagnaro of north greenbush. he was the love of my life. we had 25 great years together. paul died in 1994 from a medical procedure gone wrong. i'Il be buried next to paul. i'm sorry for not having the courage to come out as gay. i was afraid of being ostracized: by family, friends, and co-workers. seeing how people like me were treated, i just could not do it. now that my secret is known, ill forever rest in peace.
"why do we have pride?"
So that no one ever has to come out in their obituary. so that queer people can have peace in life, not just in death.
