James: what are you doing?
Sirius: helping Remus look for his box of chocolates I ate an hour ago
Thoughts:
I don’t care about canon, Dumbledore must’ve known that Wormtail was the one who told Voldemort about the Potters.
I mean, think about it: in PoA is mentioned that 1) when James told Dumbledore that he would choose Sirius as Secret Keeper, Dumbledore’d already suspected that someone was giving information to the other side. 2) Pettigrew’d been already working for Voldemort for about a year when James and Lily died.
Now please don’t tell me that know-it-all freaking Dumbledore didnt have a clue about who was the traitor. I mean lets look on the options (of people who were close to the Potters): Dorcas and the McKinnons died, which means that they couldnt sell the Potters. Then there’s Remus, who, please, was forever thankful that he could go to Hogwarts being a werewolf and that he had friends. He wouldnt betray James for shit. Sirius ran away when he was 16 and started living with who? With James. Moreover he was James and Lily best man and Harry’s godfather. Who the hell would give away information that would get his godson killed? Plus, he spent all his life making it painfully obvious that he was different from his pure-blood-crazy family. Not a good candidate for a death eater, huh? So its reasonable to conclude that, even though Pettigrew was a marauder, he’d be the most likely one to betray the Potters.
But, yes, I guess you could say that maybe he would be as thankful as Remus for having friends. You could say that Dumbledore didnt want to pinpoint who was the traitor cause he wasnt sure or whatsoever. Okay. But at that time, Snape was already Dumbledore’ spy. That’s how they knew that Voldemort was after the Potters after all. Dumbledore could just have asked Snape about this shit. And I think we can all agree that Snape knew that Pettigrew was working for Voldemort as Sirius says in PoA that the Deathly Eaters in Azkaban wanted Wormtail dead because they knew he was the one who sent Voldemort to Godric’s Hollow. Snape had the dark Mark, which means he was one of the top Death Eaters. If the others knew, he knew it too.
But Dumbledore didnt know James chose Wormtail as the Secret Keeper so okay. But please he must have at least suspected that Sirius wouldnt be the traitor. So why did Dumbledore allow Sirius go to Azkaban without a fucking trial? I think this is the biggest proof we’ve got that Dumbledore was a shitty person. Even if he thought Sirius was guilty, it was his duty as Chief of the Wizengamot to guarantee a fair trial.
All I can say is that maybe Albus Dumbledore didnt give a shit about Sirius Black - because he wasnt busy mourning the James and Lily’s death, its McGonagall who cries in the first chapter of Philosopher’s Stone, not him.
What I, not a Dumbledore’s fan, suspect is that Sirius would be less trouble in Azkaban. Sirius agreed to hand Harry to Hagrid the night James and Lily died, so that Harry would live with the Dursleys. But he would’ve wanted to be close to his godson, even if they didnt live together. Can you imagine how Sirius, who himself had grown up in an abusive household, would fucking explode if he knew that Harry’s family made him sleep in a cupboard? Dumbledore would tell him “oh Harry’s got to live with Petunia because she’s the only living relative of Lily, its the only way that the charm of her sacrifice works and shit”, but Sirius-the-impulsive wouldnt listen. He would’ve gone after Harry, protected him with every spell he knew, Sirius would’ve died if he had to, but he wouldnt allow Harry to love with the Dursleys.
And no, I dont think that Sirius knew in GoF and OotP how bad the Dursleys were. Harry’s never wanted to tell him in fear that Sirius would expose himself as a fugitive.
So I believe that Dumbledore probably knew that Sirius was innocent, even if he didnt, he didnt botjer for a trial because Sirius would’ve never allowed Harry to grow up in an abusive household.
everyday i wake up and remember that all of the marauders are dead then i cry a little. fuck peter pettigrew though. idgaf if he hated himself in the books he’s still a TRAITOR
no why do we have to believe that they didn't make Remus the secret keeper cause they thought he was the traitor and why not just believed that the reason they didn't was cause he was in a mission he was missing for months and that's why ,not cause they thought he was the traitor cause this shit hurts.

Crookshanks being an unpaid intern for Sirius Black is my favorite thing about Prisoner of Azkaban. He had that cat running ERRANDS. Ordering the Firebolt for Harry, stealing Neville's list of passwords. Crookshanks was Booked and Busy

Sirius: did you not hear? your mom said I could live here and then made me cookies
James:
James: YES IVE ALWAYS WANTED A ROOMMATE IT'LL BE LIKE A PERMANENT SLEEPOVER
Sirius: YES
Am I the only one who thought the prank never made sense? Like not just in the fanon the fans Made of the Marauders, but the actual canon of J.K Rowling. The way she wrote Remus and Sirius, especially Sirius just doesn’t fit with the way the prank supposedly happened.Sirius’s entire character is based upon the foundation that he’s loyal, his animagus is a a dog of all things,an animal known for its loyalty, the vision Voldemort used to torment Harry and trick him is literally Sirius refusing to give in to Voldemort and Betray the order. His whole backstory was that he was thought to be a traitor for 12 years when he wasn’t,and he felt so bad that he stayed in Azkaban(it’s canon that he could have escaped at any time but he stayed because he believed he deserved it.)and he was the one who turned out to be loyal all along.I honestly believe that J.K Rowling just put the prank there to earn extra sympathy points from the fans for snape, like that’s the only was I can see it.
Ah, see, this though. Like there’s so much about that prank that doesn’t make sense and especially with how it essentially means Sirius betrays Remus. I have no problem seeing Sirius pulling a potentially dangerous prank to get one over Snape but at the expense of Remus? Just no.
I was honestly thinking this today how absolutely nothing about the prank or the post-exam scene makes any sense amongst everything else we know about james and sirius
we’re constantly told how james is brave, loyal, fundamentally good, a kind friend, someone valued by his school, a man who adored his wife, someone who died to try and save her and his son. and then there’s a whole scene of him being needlessly cruel just bc he has the power to, and the implication he’s done it a lot of other times too. and the only explanation we get is “boys will be boys”. these two portrayals are in direct conflict with each other and neither are ever fleshed out enough for it to make sense. was he an absolutely terrible person who was nice only to a select few? was he defending sirius from bullying from snape that we didn’t see? was he a cruel teen who became a completely different person fighting in the war?
same with sirius, as the post discusses above. it’s completely the opposite to everything else we’re told about his character. he literally became an animagus to help remus. he risked his life to run off after him instead of making sure the kids got safely back to hogwarts so he could make sure remus didn’t do anything that could cause harm or out himself. pulling a prank on the person most likely to out remus by literally leading him to remus as a werewolf is fundamentally and odds with that
taking it all as canon the best explanation I have for james is him acting in defense of sirius. that snape was bullying sirius behind the scenes in the one way he had power over him - the abuse and danger sirius faced from his family. snape could report back to the other blacks anything vulnerable he discovered who could pass that onto sirius’s parents. it’s not too hard for someone as hyper-observant as snape to grasp that sirius is unlike his family in a whole bunch of ways beyond their pureblood mania. it’s not hard to imagine that he caught sirius and remus a bit too close at one point, or saw sirius pushing gender boundaries more than a pureblood aristocrat should be, or was there when sirius was having some kind of breakdown/emotional outburst that for his family is only okay behind closed doors. can you imagine snape holding sirius’s secrets that no one else is supposed to know over his head? and taunting him constantly about what he could do with them? that is the only scenario in which I can imagine james as he’s presented in the rest of the book choosing to go after a defenceless snape
sirius risking remus’s whole life and future in the wizarding world is tbh completely irreconcilable. the only thing I can come close to is snape threatening his life, as in telling sirius he was straight up going to out him to his family, and sirius was terrified for his own safety. and in that absolute terror was not thinking even close to rationally and thought he could just scare snape off and he’d never know the wolf was remus. but even then, the idea that he’d try and save himself from the danger of being outed by putting his bff (and possibly bf who can be sure in fifth year) also in danger from being outed is nuts
yeah so basically jkr didn’t think those scenes through at all. she literally went i need a way to make the marauders seem like they have a bad side bc I fucked up on actually exploring their characterisation/need to make snape seem sympathetic after he’s been bullying kids for five books straight/just want to do it for the vibes. and that was the extent of the planning
Why the fuck is everyone gay all of a sudden?

i should probably get a normal hobby instead of squealing over fictional gay ppl, but i don’t think i will
Remus: so how’s motherhood treating you?
Lily: fine, I didn’t expect this much crying though
Remus: it’s fine, that’s normal for babies
Lily: what? The baby is fine. I was talking about James
James: *crying holding the baby* I LOVE YOU SO MUCH
