One thing that annoys me is how OdyPen is treated in some post-Epic media

The fact that Penelope is viewed as the "masculine" one in the relationship simply because Odysseus is a sensitive man who cries, feels, and is affected by the things he does only reinforces the stereotype that that women, or anything related to femininity, are "sensitive" and weak. Penelope isn't strong because she's Spartan and "could fight off suitors on her own," she's strong because she endured 20 years with 108 men wanting to do horrible things to her just to stay loyal to her husband that she didn't even know was alive. The association that strength is only "valid" when it is physical and masculine only proves that people cannot see a woman as strong in herself; they need to to create a narrative that makes her "the man" in the relationship and physically strong enough to be respected, Penelope is strong because she is a queen, she is smart, she was the only one who could match Odysseus's intellect, not because she is Spartan or a warrior, because she wasn't.

Changing the stereotypes of a standard heterosexual relationship between the two genders is just as misogynistic as the common stereotypes.

They might even say it's a joke depiction, but it affects their characters just as much as a truthful ones, because the greatest truths are often found in jokes, and only exacerbates a prejudice that is already structural in nature.

i actually really enjoy a more morally grey sirius who doesn’t feel incredibly guilty or regretful about the prank, i think it’d be fun to see his loyalty to remus clashing with his hatred for snape, like a ‘he didn’t want to hurt or upset moony but he also really wanted to get back at snape and anyway, nothing had actually happened. why did it matter?’ thought process.

as a teenager I didn't like Sirius bc of the prank and that scene in the pensive but as an adult it is absolutely hilarious to me that Sirius told Snape that he'd find a werewolf through the tunnel by the whooping willow tree and it turns out that in fact. there was a werewolf. like what did Snape think was going to happen. he'd find a puppy? a normal wolf? an empty shrieking shack? James in a onesie with a fake tail?

like imagine that going to wizarding court.

lawyor/judge: sir, you told the plaintiff that there was a werewolf?

lawyor/judge: and he still went?

I mean, obviously it would destroy Lupin's life but still. in the frame of Sirius and Snape. I just. it's a little funny.

it reminds me of that one internet story about the person who kept on having their lunch stolen so they put an insane number of peppers and laxatives in it and covered the container in clear writing saying "do not eat contains laxatives" and the dumbass thief still ate it and suffered. like. what did they think was going to happen.

so glad it’s not illegal to use lycanthropy as a metaphor for obsessive compulsive disorder cause i’d be in jail big time…. but i’d still be right give me one werewolf character you can’t apply an ocd lens to. exactly you cant. it’s about the guilt and the lack of control and the feeling like you’re irreparably bad or a monster and the fear of hurting others and the anger and. it’s perfect.
