the end of prince caspian and later dawn treader confirming for all of narnia and their history and legends that the pevensies are still alive is crazy when you think about it. they died once, and they will also never die. they are so far from you that they exist outside your time. they can never come back, but they're still out there. your legends, your saints, your heroes are very much still alive, as they have been for hundreds of years before you and will be for hundreds of years to come. you loved them and you knew them and you will never see them again. they are a haunting that never goes away. how fucked up is that.

SKZ CODE Ep.63โก SKZ Travel Log๐ฆ๐บ
the plot of prince caspian is so funny to me itโs likeย โlocals bring back ghosts from hundreds of years ago to help defeat the evil kingโ except itโs from the point of view of the ghosts
the ghosts, not actually being dead, spend a significant fraction of the early book scrounging for food on the deserted island that used to be their house
and that scrounging for food, and uncertainty around where exactly they are, is something that adaptations should lean into more
And of course itโs the โghostsโ of the Great Kings and Queens from hundreds of years ago but right now theyโre just kids so no oneโs actually sure they have the right guys at first sight
No, but the characters themselves talk about this in the book!
โโArenโt there lots of stories about magic forcing people out of one place โ out of one world โ into another? I mean, when a magician in The Arabian Nights calls up a Jinn, it has to come. We had to come, just like that.โ
โ'Yes,โ said Peter, โI suppose what makes it feel so strange is that in the stories itโs always someone in our world who does the calling. One doesnโt really think about where the Jinnโs coming from.โ
โAnd now we know what it feels like for the Jinn,โ said Edmund with a chuckle. โGolly! Itโs a bit uncomfortable to know that we can be whistled for like that.โโ
Iโve never thought about it like this and now I canโt stop laughing
I love Prince Caspian, and I love the dialogue in that scene. I have to add the line Edmund says next. He says, โItโs worse than what Father says about living at the mercy of the telephone.โ If thatโs not relevant in our age of instant communication, I donโt know what is. It is also hilarious. Edmund is hilarious.
