I didn’t think this would end up being my first post after a while haha, but oh well.
I’m writing this because lately I’ve been working on a (sort of) translation blog. I say sort of because the idea is slightly different. Basically, it’s also meant to work as practice help for other Japanese learners also. The idea, in short, is this: for everything that I’m reading or playing at the moment I make both
1) a comprehensive glossary of the most important and/or frequent Japanese terms, idioms, anything relevant really, with their English equivalent (using Quizlet, it’s free, anyone can view)
b) a really, really detailed summary (it’s not word-for-word but I hate leaving out stuff so I usually don’t)
so that anyone can study the glossary first, then read or play the thing themselves and use my translation to check if they’re not sure about something. Though you may even end up finding errors of mine as well haha! It’s very practice-y for me too honestly.
I also do full translations sometimes though. An example of this is an official short story for A Requiem for Innocence by Novectacle. Or even just glossaries for works that are going to be or have been licensed in English. I don’t want to get in the way of official releases, but I’m sure there are also people like me who enjoy reading stuff in its original language sometimes.
