An introduction to Thade.
In this post: my first upon this account, I will be talking about Thade, a world of mine and a fellow players’ creation. @artlovespaper
Myself and my friend @artlovespaper created Thade, the above is her artwork.
Thade is a world of magic and technology. I was inspired by mid-WWII technology, that being technology invented by the British and German forces around the year 1940.
An example of such technology; the telegrapgh system, a communications asset and electro-mechanical devices such as the ‘bombe’, the Turing machine responsible for cracking the German enigma code (effectively a large, primitive calculator).
Such innovations are the current limit of possibility in this world presently, although technology constantly evolves. The magic within this world is based upon the 5th edition dungeons and dragons magic structure, with some changes to the format: magic is much harder to use in Thade, with much practise and study dedicated to proper use.
One defining trait of Thade, is that, whilst magic is abundant, it is therefore regulated… Almost all the domains of Thade enforce policies of magic, for example: 'no magic above level 1 is to be cast within residential areas, users of magic higher than level 1 must carry signed documents of permission with them, else said user will be detained and prosecuted’.
I believe that this presents Thade in a more modern light, with citizens who have learnt magic requiring documents proving they are using magic legally.
Anyone can learn magic, but one must study and qualify whilst enrolled into a college of magic, colleges offer training in magic through levels 2-4. A student must work up through the levels, and focus on a particular type of magic; elemental, reguvination and telekinesis are all examples of such types. When one has graduated, one will recieve a document allowing one to use said magic.
There are 2 main species of human within Thade; Humans and Ranae. Humans learn magic by study and practise, and can learn any magic, regardless of their preference. Ranae are born with a higher skill in a certain type of magic, their magic will always work better when applied to that certain type, and worse when using other magic types, furthermore, Ranae are born with doffering animal features (based on their heritage and place of birth), some: like the citizens of Coronam, are born with horns, others, tails. More often than not, a Ranaes’ magic will be similar to that of their family, and those living in their community.
To conclude, Humans can learn any magic, and be proficient in it, whilst Ranae can learn any magic, but are much better at one type than all others.
Those are the bare bones of my world, feel free to leave an ask or private message me if you are curious.
