So this came up on my FB wall today and I think I needed to read this.
Instagram art scam
I wanna call out @1340art on Instagram because it’s a “well designed” art scam that asks artists to pay for exposure in an unknown magazine that no one reads. Sure if you look it up, it seems legit and it looks like a real thing, it even has reviews on Trustpilot (most of them bots).
I got to them by a comment on my Instagram. First they might ask you to apply for a shout out on their profile, however a few days later they send you a mail gleefully announcing that you “have been selected for a feature in their magazine” and proceed to ask you to pay $20 (non refundable!!!) for exposure $30 if you want four different images to be featured and a more balanced review by their jury whatever that means. Oh, and to make things even more questionable, there’s a deadline.
Some people I’ve heard of who have payed for this in the past have stated that all they gained was one click on their website link and ordered a magazine that never arrived. I’ve also heard that if you try to subscribe to them it doesn’t work cause they don’t have a newsletter. Wonder why.
It’s so incredibly sad that people like this will use the desperation of some artists to get out there as a means to scam them.
Especially ‘cause they’re also approaching young artists full of hope and with little experience who are vulnerable to fall for this.
I’ve been approached by an actual magazine in the past and I was not the one having to pay up.
Be aware that these kind of scams exist fellow artists, and always Google stuff like this. There are forums out there discussing these scams so you can find out about them before it’s too late.
here's a WIP of an evil bitch I'll probably never finish up
Art tip for new/amateur artists:
Don't worry about speed!
I see so many people give advice to new/inexperienced artists, and it's usually good EXCEPT for their input on building speed per piece.
"Draw fast, it'll be messy at first but it's better than spending 4 hours on each drawing."
"Take your time, speed will come as you get better!"
DON'T. WORRY. ABOUT. SPEED.
Of course if your goal is to draw well in a short span of time, then focus on it. I've met plenty of artists that have mastered an eye for detail and can draw something in 20 minutes that would literally take me hours.
But most artists don't care about achieving that.
I've noticed that a lot of new artists think that speed = skill, and it just isn't true. When i was 13, it took me 4 hours to complete a piece to my satisfaction. Now, it takes me between 4-12 hours, usually on the longer end. If anything, extra time means extra TLC you're putting into your piece!
Basically just don't worry about it. If you truly want to draw fast, then of course worl towards it and best of luck to you. But if you're just trying to shave time because you think it'll make you a better artist, don't!
Just draw. Enjoy yourself, and while it's nice to know long a piece took you, don't let it define your skill as an artist.

Im a liiittle behind on inktober, but ill be caught up by the end of today! Here's day 1-3. 💙
I recently opened up a RedBubble account, and this is my newest design!
I’m new to designing for apparel and such stuff, and I can’t wait to get better at it! If you have a suggestion, I’d love to do it!
Always Smiling
Drafted it out while I was inebriated, and decided to finish it up. It’s nice having colored pencils again 😍
WIP on easily the most pain-in-the-ass piece I’ve ever worked on. Pointillism is NOT for me.
So, I’ve been wanting an actual character to draw when I feel like doing something fun and relaxed, so I decided to create one with a friend as a (very heavy) reference. (Seriously, it looks just like her and I love it.)
I don’t know if I’ll keep the same name, but we’ll see. She’s really just for doodles/sketches anyway, so I probably won’t put much thought into it.
Revoked
It’s finished!!!
bad quality sneak peek!
I'll upload a better picture of it later. My DSLR is screwed up so I can't get a great quality one, but it'll be better than this. I don't have a title for it yet, but it's one of my best!
A small sneak peek of what I'm working on :D
