broad street bullies yes hard hitting big bodies brute force winning wear down the opponents through physicality that’s the flyers that’s philadelphia and that’s what the media has assigned and that’s what the organization leans into and that’s why two significant playoff clinching games were through shootouts (skills competition) and that’s why one two three four first round picks all set to become synonymous with the flyers are also synonymous with undersized and that’s why the guy we call mr playoffs is absolutely not big at all and was such a cerebral player he was good in the postseason bc the series format allowed him to study each team obsessively and now he’s the gm and that’s why the current big name for the franchise is a reclamation project player who once had a “soft” reputation and why every fan gets up in arms about our under six foot skilled twenty one year old and the flyers used to be so bad at shootouts but now have the best because actually the broad street bullies were fifty years ago and just like how back then, philadelphia set the tone for a specific way of playing hard nosed hockey that defined the pre-2000’s era, the transition into fast and skilled hockey is fully taking over and it makes certain people uncomfortable it makes the media all tangled up because what about the working class style flyers what about brutal hockey? get over it.

the nhl will never recover from what it does to itself. personally i am always pushing and hoping for change but jesus christ it's never going to happen at this rate. so cartoonishly evil to have a man who, upon googling his name, you are met with articles on articles of a legal case describing in stomach-turning detail about he, especially, was involved in a group raping of a woman, then meet with a group of youth players to talk to and inspire them. and even when doing surface-level good pr shit like that he can't even have the half decency to not wear the most politically fucking stupid bullshit possible. i'm sure it's really inspirational for those kids to hear that if they, too, have no moral backbone and no sense of humanity, and as long as they all stick really close together and love each other and cover for each other, they too can ruin the lives of an innocent person and not take any accountability for it.

it’s so fascinating how philly sports teams continuously maintain that underdog identity even as decades pass and rosters are turned upside down. like the flyers specifically, the 2025-26 team had first round rejects from their original teams that then all had career years with the flyers: trevor, jamie, owen, risto. also major redemption seasons for players like dvorak and especially vladar, who no one thought could hit this level. then players who were always underestimated because of their size: emil and denver. nick seeler who worked in his dad’s paint shop thinking about giving up hockey just a few years ago. even our recent first round picks porter and matvei have chips on their shoulder already. picking up glendening off of waivers and him being crucial to our fourth line. coots having a bounce back in a different role since back surgery. trav2 putting the team on their shoulders at various points in the season, both late first round picks that clearly want to dedicate their careers to this city. the loyalty the determination the rising to the occasion the growing collection of players that were severely doubted in their careers. it’s the same vein as like how a philly sports team will never have a mcdavid or celebrini. every single player, even our points leaders, will always be polarizing to the outside and there will be no consensus “good” player. there’s always threads of doubt and underestimation and bias that influence how philly players are perceived. now how much of this is because they’re in philly or because philly attracts these chip in the shoulder guys.. well that’s like a nature v nurture question.

As an older queer, allow me to say: the walls of the closet are load-bearing. It is our job as a community to stand in front of that door and tell everyone who wants to peek inside to fuck off.

There are so many reasons a person may choose not to come out and there is no reason a person would owe the public or a stranger that information. Certainly it's not owed simply because someone is famous.

We have fought for decades to make it safer for people to be open and authentic about themselves, but we are not yet there. And even if we were, the closet would still be something we need to maintain for those who are not ready to reveal that part of themselves.

This is important and sadly necessary. Support but do not pressure coming out. Especially now, when the safety we fought for as queers, and largely (though not universally) enjoyed for the past two decades, is being actively attacked on every front in so many places.

This includes supporting queer artists and authors who work under pen names to keep their identity private BY NOT TRYING TO FIND AND OUT their legal identity.

As a woman who is both gender non-conforming and who is planning a pregnancy in the near future AND who works with children, I am very invested in the conversation about the confines of femininity, the complexities of motherhood and the fascistic expectation of women to have children. I also often find it deeply frustrating.

I do not think it should need to be said, but unfortunately it absolutely is, that nobody should ever be forced to become pregnant, be a parent or carry a pregnancy to term. Ever. This requires both complete and total abortion rights & access but also the dismantling of the gendered expectation of women to want and need children. Remaining child free should not only be possible for women, it should also be normal and completely accepted. Anything else is oppressive.

However, I am deeply bothered by how many people who share these views talk about children. I have come across many posts describing children in cruel and dehumanizing ways, emphasizing how gross and terrible children are and how much of a burden they are to their parents. This, I think is also wrong.

Children are a particularly vulnerable population. They often have very little rights and autonomy and are at the whims of adults around them, which makes then particularly vulnerable to abuse. Children are real, fully realized people who have very specific needs and considerations. Constantly discussing how disgusting and terrible children are, means attacking people who have no power and cannot defend themselves, legally or otherwise. These views cannot be separated from calls to remove children from public life, like parks and transportation, the practice of which is both dehumanizing and oppressive. This goes hand in hand with the gendered oppression of women who are unfortunately still often the primary caregivers of children. Forcing children out of the public sphere means forcing mothers out of it too. And the right to not have children needs to go hand in hand with the right to have children. Women need abortion rights and access but they also need the right and access to give birth for free. They need robust childcare and child & family friendly infrastructure. Otherwise the only people who can afford to have children are wealthy elites.

The rights of women to not have children and the rights of children and mothers go hand in hand. They are not contradictory. Being a parent is a complex relationship, one wrought with a long history of violence and oppression of children and women. It is not easy to navigate, and nobody should be expected to do it. Simultaneously, the people who do decide to do it deserve help and support, not scorn or mockery. And most of all, children, all children, even the annoying, dirty and screaming ones deserve a safe loving world that sees their full humanity, respects their perspectives and their bodily autonomy. We are all a part of creating that world for them. Society should be about being good to each other, and that includes children too.

and you know what. every single player on the team (who played more than one game) had at least one point during these playoffs. every single one. that means that literally every guy on the roster contributed offensively in some meaningful way and it was truly a team effort from top to bottom. i literally couldn't be prouder of them.

i don't think we were the better team (obv lol) in that series, but 3 of the 4 games were CLOSE. like, one lucky bounce close. and yes, part of luck is being good enough to put yourself in a position to take advantage of the lucky bounce, and the c*nes were able to do that and we weren't.

but still, down 2 of our best players, with SIX players 21 or younger, with more than half our roster who'd never been to the playoffs before, we took a cup favorite team to ot twice and played them close 3 times. that's WILDDDDD and so impressive and i'm unbelievably proud! the c*nes are smack dab in the middle of their window to compete. we jimmied our window open with a wire hanger and a crowbar and some gumption but we still didn't look completely out of our depth.

we knew it was likely to be a sweep... but to see them hang in there and look like they belonged, and be a hard team to beat... it just felt really hopeful. and i think that's why everyone left the game in such a good mood — it felt like we all saw the start of something wonderful last night. unbelievably proud.
