“I would not use the Ring. Not if Minas Tirith were falling in ruin and I alone could save her.”
My favorite scenes in the LotR books are the ones where Legolas has vital information and just decides it's not important to share.
Like when Gandalf spent literal PAGES trying to figure out why the vibes were off in Moria and Legolas chimes in with just "it's a balrog :) that shit's evil :) we're so fucked :)" like what do you MEAN you knew already and just didn't tell him??
Or at the beginning of Two Towers when Aragorn thinks there's something nearby so he puts his ear to the ground to listen, and then like 10 minutes later is like "hmmm i hear horses" and Legolas is just like "mm yep. there are 105 blond bitches with spears" like you just let your friend put his face in the dirt and you can SEE them??
Legolas please gain a sense of urgency
No because this cracks me up every fucking time. The whole reason he came to Rivendell in the first place was to let Elrond know his idiot friends lost Gollum in the dumbest way possible and for the most part didn’t explain the full story. Also the fact that the only *other* reason Legolas was there was because he looked perfectly average compared to Glorfindel just kind of explains his weird energy.
OK i put together my presentation
(it still needs prettifying but it's late and i have more actual work to do)
*ahem*
slide deck, please:
important notes from the presentation:
three different people looked at "his dad is a dick" and strenuously disagreed that this was irrelevant, so, you know. i stand corrected.
we are all very sad that boromir lost his horse. even though the horse, canonically, was fine.
i always forget that people who are primarily film fans just Do Not Know that bilbo ground the whole council of elrond to a halt to give a poetry reading and complain about the catering.
why is this allowed? because bilbo is elrond's emotional support hobbit. frodo is bilbo's emotional support hobbit which is why he adopted him. sam is, of course, frodo's emotional support hobbit. merry and pippin are everyone's emotional support hobbits. fatty bolger is nobody's emotional support hobbit because he stayed in the shire, where fortunately Nothing Bad Happened At All, Definitely Not
i have been vehemently vindicated in my belief that "curse you and all your kin to darkness and death!" is an entirely valid response to being called before 11am
i'm glad i included both the concluding slides because they got the biggest laughs of the presentation
I do not fear death.
ARAGORN The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
just finished the two towers
FUCK
This is 10x funnier if you read it in their voices
There will come a day where this will appear on my dash and I will scroll past it, but it is not this day.
"Gandalf, buddy? What have you got there?"
"Oh him? That my emotional support hobbit."
"Uh huh. And what he got?"
"That's my hobbit's emotional support hobbit."
"And I suppose those two are also emotional support hobbits as well?"
"No, of course not. Those two are my emotional distress hobbits."
".....?"
"Keeps me on my toes."
Gandalf: Well you stole my last emotional support hobbit
Elrond: I didn't steal him, he was given to me
Sauron: “I like your Silmarils”
Morgoth: “Thanks, I stole them from the president”
hold on i have to read the Silmarillion real quick
yeah this is funny
braver than any US marine
I love the new timestamp feature. Instantly see that it did indeed take nearly a month to reply.
I know it's beating a dead horse by the year 2026 but my heart tells me that no, actually, we haven't talked enough about how hot Aragorn is*. I mean for a start he's played by Vigo Mortensen so we were off to a very, very strong start. But then he's all grimy, long-legged, mysterious and humble, which is already very sexy, but MOST IMPORTANTLY he speaks elvish softly, holds the hands of Arwen so delicately, talks to his horses gently, kneels to talk to Frodo, uses his big, gentle, warrior hands to close Frodo's hand over the ring to refuse it, and at that point, well, he is downright irresistible. What a man. I would suck him off even after three weeks of dirty travel after seeing him refuse the ring like this. Damn. Aragorn.
*in the movies, I still haven't read the books
That cape on his left shoulder reminds me of that black goo he turned into after Adar's attack.
Today’s progress on The Rings of Power banner in San Diego.
HE’S HERE. HE’S HERE.
there is some GOOD in this world and i’ts worth FIGHTING FOR
And here he was, a little halfling from the Shire, a simple hobbit of the quiet countryside, expected to find a way where the great ones could not go, or dared not go.
I think about Aragorn & Pippin's kiss quite often.
