What if Boromir could have lived if Aragorn had accepted his lineage by Parth Galen? He knew how to heal, yes, but knowing how to heal and being a healer feel like two different things in the lotr universe. Elrond, for example, is a healer, while Ioreth in Minas Tirith in the Houses of Healing simply knows how to heal. Aragon may have learned under Elrond's tutelage, but having spent so long denying his heritage, was he a healer at that point, or did he just know how?

Maybe Boromir would have died anyway, far from his home and without athelas or clean water or bandages. Honestly, he probably would have still died even if Aragorn had come into his own by that point. But I have to wonder if Boromir haunted him, later, after saving Faramir and Merry and Éowyn and Pippin and Frodo and Sam. Did the first one he lost haunt him still? He who should have been there for the return of his king?

the way the lotr movies split up dialogue and moved lines / gave them to other ppl really worked SO well like. theoden’s pre-pelennor battle speech being split and the “ride! ride now to gondor!” happening days before on their way there and the rest of that speech happening immediately before the fight? king shit. “i give hope to men, i keep none for myself”, aragorn’s mother’s last words being given to aragorn instead? spectacular, i’m crying, gilraen i love you. gandalf’s “do not be quick to deal out death and judgment” speech being delivered in moria and with the direct context that they just saw gollum in the shadows, instead of way earlier in fotr? brilliant, showstopping. pippin’s song sung to denethor in minas tirith being adapted from bilbo’s walking song, something cheery and familiar turned to somber in the wake of war? cinnamon topography. its so good.

When things are all said and done, I like to imagine Aragorn paying a visit to the nameless townsperson who supplied the six dried leaves of athelas that revived Faramir, Eowyn, and Merry.
