It seems I am becoming known, so here's a mini introduction!

Hi, I'm Raven, a queer life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ or Latter-Day Saints. My pronouns are He/They, and this is my church side blog. My main is @purpleravenexe if you want to see my other art or fandom ramblings.

I joined/discovered tumblrstake earlier this year and it's helped me so much in my spiritual journey, and I hope that the little things I share can help someone else :]

What things would you guys put in the background of a character's house to say they're Mormon that's not a Book of Mormon. Like visual cues but I guess they could be described in writing.

- pile of old/discarded/unopened friend magazines.

- a piano. along with many various other instruments. (with the children's hymnbook)

- one bookshelf dedicated to religious books and family history(the other has brandon sanderson, fablehaven etc)

- First vision and Jesus painting.(also multiple framed scripture quotes)

- Giant herbal tea and Dr pepper stash. And sparkling water.

- ward mission plan on the fridge

- BYU graduation plaque in an office

- suit jacket over a chair, church shoes in the shoes pile

- giant stash of non-perishable food.

My favorite scriptural phrase to use as slang is "if I perish, I perish"

I use it to convey a sense of "oh well" combined with "here we go"

Example: "Hey do you feel prepared for that test later today?" "Eh... I studied a bit but definitely not as much as I should have. If I perish, I perish."

not because I’m self obsessed but because i’m curious: do you mormon folks ever talk about tumblr in person? like is there anyone else in your congregation that you know has tumblr and you talk about “omg did you see this post on tumblrstake???”

In my experience? No. Tumblr is pretty well known as The Gay Freak website. I talk about it with my parents, but I otherwise just say things like "I heard someone say," or "I saw a post online/on social media." It's a matter of trust sort of thing. If you're not comfortable telling your congregation you're queer, then you probably aren't comfortable telling them you're on tumblr. I have done an in-depth explanation of you getting kidnapped by the internet mormons to my parents though.

I'm in an irl gay & allied mormons club and multiple club members are following me on tumblr. idk their usernames but they know mine. I have no doubt they love our new prophet, President Daisy G. Kirby (the G stands for Gay)

Today kinda sucked during church. I don't feel comfortable going to relief society or elders quorum right now, so I usually sit in the lobby during second hour. I usually don't mind but it made me feel lonely today. So I figured I could take the risk and talk to my bishop about it. This is my first time talking to him about my queerness and it went really well. He told me I can go wherever I want, either of the classes or stay in the lobby. He also told me how much he loves seeing me here. And something I did not expect, he said he wishes there was some sort of queer LDS history that I could look to for advice. I'm happy to see someone acknowledge that, because I am the only person I know that is doing this, being out and active in the church.

I think this became really ramble-y but! My bishop cares about my experience as a queer person in his ward. And then I went birding and saw a lot of critters.

I'm a little bit loosing my mind. My institute building is holding a little convo about "Does God care about your comfort?" and I feel like the discussion is a bit off.

Yes God cares about your comfort, it is very important to him and he will always comfort you. Discomfort is also very important to learning and growth. So you have as much balance as you can have. There is also a difference between discomfort and all the horrors ever, being so poor that you cannot afford all your basic needs, or coming to despise your body.

It reminds me of something I heard yesterday. God does not cause bad things to happen, but he will help you through it and help you learn something new in the end. He cares for and cultivates your comfort.

dunno bout the rest of yall but i was at the last session in person and as soon as oaks said no more temples ALL the excited giggles and quiet whispers immediately died and it was deathly silent for the rest of the talk 💀

Okay, I had been called to help my Grandma to her temporary house.

On the way there, listening to Dad and Grandma talk about conference, thinking "Yeah, Grandma got me."

After getting everything inside, Dad turns to me and asks: "so, what are your thoughts on President Oaks?"

Okay... I had been meaning for this to be with the whole family, but Dad and I started talking, I sprung the "What would you do if I was..."

"Gay?" He answered.

We continued talking, I identified myself in the LGBT community, and as Aroace.

He's supportive. As he can be. It definitely could have been worse, and it isn't. So, yay?

So, I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and I’d be curious to see what my Fellow Tumblr Mormons think, but like… you know how our leaders keep saying things like “the family is under attack”? I… I think they’re right. But not in the “people are gay how dare” way that a lot of people mean when they use that statement as a bludgeon.

When couples literally can’t afford the medical bills of having a child, that’s “the family under attack.”

When couples who want children can’t afford for one of them to quit their job to care for the kids and can’t afford childcare because our society makes living on one income next to impossible, that’s “the family under attack.”

When domestic violence goes underreported and underpunished, that’s “the family under attack.”

When late-stage capitalism requires people to work so hard that they burn out so badly they can’t possibly even think about the concept of dating, let alone marriage, because they’re so focused on survival, that’s “the family under attack.”

When the society we live in is actively, violently hostile to having a family in a loving environment, when climate disaster looms and threatens disaster on even financially stable families at the whim of our dying planet, when pro-birth policies are pushed without corresponding pro-life policies, when poverty robs the hope out of people’s hands and the food out of babies’ mouths, that’s “the family under attack.”

Or maybe that’s just me.

Anyway, this was a thing I was thinking about today.
