also (and I feel the need to add this to every AI post) it is incredibly bad for our environment and is actively stealing water away from people’s homes.
you cannot argue away the environmental damage.
LLM discussion is filled with constant fearmongering by people not educated (and too lazy to research) the topic that dilutes public perception of the more serious ethical issues with generative ai. https://spectrum.ieee.org/ai-water-usage https://news.mit.edu/2025/explained-generative-ai-environmental-impact-0117 A lot of reputable sources fail to explain any actual connection between the water use of ai data centers and environmental damage or impact. Instead, it mostly only strains local municipalities which i guess might lead to outages though i feel like it probably just drives prices up. The water problem is suuuuuper overblown and filled with misinformation. Most of the environmental damage caused by ai is from the really obvious energy use (Most of this is actually from training ai, not using them, btw). People try to say this also causes a water strain which kinda goes to show the lengths people go to stretch this fake issue, when its really just that using so much fucking energy is pumping our atmosphere with fossil fuel emissions. Which is obviously really bad. This is also on top of how all the production costs for the hardware its all running on also causes real environmental damage, as well as drives prices up for everyday people. This is *also* on top of the more reasonable ethical/moral outrage towards generative ai, such as the blatant disregard for intellectual property law (the same law that, of course, is used to abuse indie creators, these megacorps are immune to with their hallucination machines) and their complete enshittification of the modern internet. And also the shit in OP's screenshot. If you don't understand such a complex issue you should really stay out of it.
the cruelty squad clone genre of game pisses me off so fucking much i hope everyone who has ever devved one for any reason gets tortured in hell for +1 quintillion years atop whatever else theyve accrued

I love how careless and sloppy you can be with water. Fill that glass up as fast as you want. Get it all over the place. Doesn't even matter. Soda drinkers wish they had even a fraction of this power.

Once you have some proficiency in a field, you'll be able to tell apart the "this creator is using an inaccurate simplification for a non-technical audience" and the "this creator actually thinks that this is how this shit works", and it will drive you insane.
quantum physics is so bad w this. its really cool how educators just do not give enough of a shit to actually learn about quantum physics before trying to tell other people about it.
