For my art in nature I found three really cool rocks and lined them up like a stop light in the sand.
For my favorite place during my time here at Bonaventure I choose to draw the lacrosse field. I made many great memories with my friends here and will always remember it.
For the getting your voice out there assignment I decided to tape this inspirational message to a lamp post next to the side walk. It is a high trafficked area where many people will be able to see it. It says “you can achieve anything”.
Midterm:
For my midterm painting, I chose to depict part of a controversial fashion campaign by Balenciaga. Their campaign featured children and teddy bears dressed in BDSM gear. The ad also included a copy of a document from a Supreme Court case that decided virtual child pornography was protected by free speech. This campaign received massive backlash and lawsuits which followed by a large apology and retraction of the campaign by Balenciaga. I chose to paint this because I think it represents how large of an issue sexualizing and exploiting children is in our society. Even one of the most influential fashion brands depicted inappropriate images with children that is very disturbing.
Although our "woke" culture has come a long way in a variety of areas, the protection of children in our country is still failing. This campaign would be seen by millions of people and the fact that it was not shut down before it was released shocks me. I think it shows the lack of awareness and disgusted minds that still control huge influential businesses throughout the world.
One of my favs! Great work!
For my pop culture moment painting I chose to re-create this image of Kim Kardashian because it sparked a lot of controversial topics in the media. Through the work of photoshop and the decision to wear a latex dress, the magazine intended to accentuate her butt. The controversy lies in the exploitation of the black female body. This sparked an issue because it sexualized her body and played to the stereotypes of black women's body.
For my canvas I used acrylic paint and marker. I made a faceless portrait of her to draw the focus onto her dress, and more specifically her butt.
This is a great piece!
For my painting, I chose an animated film that I enjoyed watching as a kid. I chose Gru from Despicable Me in front of the Moon because I think it looks pretty cool. I incorporated Van Gogh into the moon and the background by using swirls of white.
This is amazing! One of my all time favorite movies!
For this weeks project I made some glasses! I used cardboard to make them. Thank you to my friend Jordan for modeling for me!
This great Nora! Really love this one! So fashionable!
For my sock puppet I made “jace”, who is a guitarist and what better song would go with this than “Master of Puppets”!
I had a lot of fun making this 😂.
This is awesome Jack! One of my favorite pieces of the semester!
This my puppet. I used an old piece of paper and made an origami puppet. Name is jasmine.
For my art I made a visor out of a a white claw box that I taped and stapled together. Thanks to my friend Nora for modeling it for me!
Jordan this is an awesome visor! I would love to wear it sometime! Looks very well crafted!
For this homework I choose to make a purse. I used an old cardboard box I found, gold dots, a claw clip, and white tape. As you can see by the video the main function of this item is to hold stuff in a comfortable way to carry it around.
For my futuristic project I decided to create a futuristic bus. It is able to fly and get to places fast then ever believed in this decade. It had spacious room for lots of people and can go into space.
For my portrait I decided to do my friend since freshman year. This picture is after he took his braids out from our spring break vacation in punta Cana! I used the green to kind of emphasis him being sick or drained out because it was a long trip! His hair says it all.
Jack I love this portrait! It really shows your friends personality! Great color choices!
For this assignment I used a red solo cup, gum wrapper, a old scratch off ticket, and a granola bar wrapper. It was fun to combine different forms of trash to create this piece.
For my portrait I choose to paint my friend Jordan. I choose to paint her peach because her favorite candy is peach rings. I choose to outline her in yellow to show how much she glows and is such a bright presences in every room she walks into.
For my painting I drew the grinch because it is one of my favorite animated movies even though it is not Christmas time anymore! I tried to incorporate bold colors with the red and green and then some textured brush strokes for the background.
Nora, I think you have really found your artistic voice! I love all of your artwork so far :)
For my pop culture moment painting I chose the Amber Heard and Johnny Depp lawsuit case. In this case, Johnny Depp was suing Amber Heard for defamation when she released that Johnny Depp had been abusing her during their marriage resulting in many brands and companies dropping their endorsements with him. In the end, it was found that Amber Heard was the one who had been abusing Johnny Depp during that time and won the lawsuit.
I think this pop culture moment was important because it showed that men can be victims of domestic violence just as much as women can. It also showed the power of social media with the outpouring of support for Johnny during this time.
I really love your midterm painting. I closely watched this trial. I love how you captured the tension in your painting.
