I had never heard of this character before, but it really was published over a hundred years ago. Hereās a comics blog talking about her, and a couple more gems:

A few months before he passed away in 2003, a 74 year old childrenās television host sat down in the same studio where he had filmed 895 episodes over 33 years and recorded one last message. It wasnāt for children. It was for the adults who had grown up watching him.
Fred Rogers hosted Mister Rogersā Neighborhood on American public television from 1968 to 2001. For over three decades he walked into the same set, changed into a cardigan and sneakers, looked directly into the camera, and spoke to children as if each one of them was the only person in the room. He never raised his voice, never talked down to his audience, and never rushed a single moment.
In that final recording, he looked into the camera one last time and said āIām just so proud of all of you who have grown up with us. And I know how tough it is some days to look with hope and confidence on the months and years ahead. But I would like to tell you what I often told you when you were much younger. I like you just the way you are.ā
He passed away from stomach cancer on February 27, 2003. He was 74.
Sometimes you're in your 50s and still need a dose of courage from Mr. Rogers when the world feels scary.
I will forever miss Fred Rogers. RIP
Cold take but all languages are beautiful actually. Every single one. Every single human language on earth is a collection of stories interwoven into the very fabric of the words that are spoken.
āOh but this language sounds scary-ā have you heard a child speak it while pointing at a butterfly?
āOh but this language sounds silly-ā have you heard someoneās grandma recite a recipe with such practiced ease it comes off as poetry?
āOh but this language is really weird-ā and yours isnāt? Everyoneās language is weird, dumbass, it came free with your fucking humanity.
Every tongue that is spoken is a work of art. Every language a unique window into the world.
Isnāt it wonderful?

Iām not Christian, I donāt go to church anymore, and my pastor died, but when he was alive Iād sometimes go to his sermons and I remember one time he said āit feels good to hate, but we know that it isnāt allowed, so when weāre told that weāre allowed to hate someone we get so excited that we forget weāre supposed to loveā, and if my humble atheist ass might borrow some church talk Iād like to perhaps submit that
Anyhow sometimes on the day to day I feel disgust or revulsion and I have to ask myself āis this a danger to anyone at all or am I just looking for something Iām allowed to hateā and a solid 98/100 times itās the latter so once again thank you pastor D
