They were making their way up the cave tunnel to the spring. Mewtwo was badly injured because of his fight against Giovanni's machines. Ash had Mewtwo's arm around his shoulder and his own arm was wound around the psychic Pokemon's waist. Chikarita and Bulbasaur were behind pushing Mewtwo using their vine whips. As the neared the exit Mewtwo asked, "Why? Why are you helping me?" Ash smiled and said, "Well, for one thing you saved my Pikachu. That's a good reason." "The only one?" Ash turned his eyes to Mewtwo's and asked, "Do you always need a reason to help somebody?" Mewtwo looked down and smiled. Of all the humans he had ever met, Ash Ketchum had been the most uncharacteristic. He didn't see Pokemon as pets or weapons...or even a means to an end. To him they were friends, equals. "Perhaps you are unique. A unique human. One of a kind." Ash's heart was warmed by the sentiment, more so than it should have. As they left the tunnel and came out into the open valley he shyly said, "You're on of a kind too." He immediately blushed a deep red as he realized how that sounded. He immediately added, "Everybody is!" Mewtwo chuckled, the human child was quite obvious, his attempt at hiding his meaning failing quite miserably. "Careful with your words Ash, someone might get the wrong impression...or worse, the right one!" He laughed inwardly at the sight before him, Ash's face was now red as a tomato! By now they had reached the spring. Standing by it were Luna and Cullen. --Time Skip-- It was now nighttime and the Pokemon clones were preparing to leave again. Team Rocket had rebuilt their old Meowth balloon and had built a Pikachu balloon for the 'twerps'. Everyone had said their goodbyes except Ash who was doing so now. "Hey, uh Mewtwo? All thats happened has made me think and..." He was starting to lose control of his voice. Tears began welling up in his eyes. Mewtwo smiled and lifted Ash's chin with one finger. "Shhhh, I know. It is unfair, but our destinies lead in opposing directions, and I must still find my place. Perhaps one day we can be together." Then, to everyones shock Mewtwo laid his lips upon Ash's. 'Remember me Ash. As long as you live remember me!' Mewtwo said to Ash through a private mental link. "I will. I love you Mewtwo." "And I you Ash." Using his telekinesis Mewtwo levitated himself, the Pikachu clone and the Meowth clone away from the cave and into the night sky.
