“you're my light, always shine into my heart”
•MEANING/SOCIAL CRITICISM OF SOME BANGTAN SONGS•
Spine Breaker
Criticism of exaggerated consumerism. People buy things that they don't need, without need, many times, to try to fit into society. There is a part of the song that says: "you won’t freeze just because you don’t have that jacket"
Pied Piper
Inspired in the story "Pied Piper of Hamelin"(If someone does not know I will put the Link in a comment).
In the context of the song, bangtan criticizes obsessive idolatry. Where ARMY is practically told to have a social life. Don't let yourself be "bewitched", because idolizing a person too much always has
GoGo
Although the song is animated and has a fun choreo, the message of this song carries a criticism of the materialism of society. Cars, money, luxury things, etc. Today's people place more value on these things (materialism) than on moral values and criticize that in a lively way.
N.O
Criticizes the educational system. Many of the young are pressured to be the best. Where they are almost forced to give up their dreams to become "study machines" and become something that society or their family wants. N.O motivates young people to follow their dreams.
Not Today
Carry a message of empowerment. It tells us that we must fight, not let ourselves fall, and even in the face of difficulties, continue to persist. As in the song "a day may come when we lose, but it is not today. Today we fight"
21st Century Girls
Bangtan in this song encourages women to be strong, not underestimate themselves and not define themselves by a man.
Baepsae / Silver Spoon
This song talks about the difference between generations (the old and new generation)
1st: Baepsae is a small bird that can be used as a term to call someone who destroys himself by trying to imitate or copy other people who are better than him. In Korea there is a saying that says: "If a baepsae walks like a stork, he will break his legs.
2nd: Silver Spoon is a social hierarchy in Korea. There are 4 types of spoons:
Gold: the richest class
Silver: the upper middle class
Bronze: the lower middle class
Dirty spoon: the poor class.
Bangtan were the "dirty spoons" because they came from a poor company.
Fake Love
Fake love talk about how toxic lack of self-love can be. How toxic it can be to wear a mask and pretend to be who you aren't, pretend that everything is fine.
Namjoon in an Interview with J-14 Magazine about fake love: "we wanted to say that if you are false to yourself, love will not last. And love could be between a person and another, but it could also be between me and me."
Tomorrow
Composed of the rap line and produced by Yoongi, Tomorrow talks about the moment when you feel lost with your dreams and the reality that the world shows you when you grow up, waiting for a tomorrow that will not take long to arrive and will be better.

okay, i’ll bring you a theory that’s sounds so good, OMFG, you’ll see...
SHADOW according Carl Jung and its connection with Yoongi.
First of all shadow is an archetype* of the unconscious, an archetype is a model, prototype, etc.
Carl Jung explains that the shadow archetype is the unconscious aspect in which he presents attitudes that the conscious SELF doesn’t recognize as his. Basically a repressed personality by “being”
The unconscious is in a constant struggle against the conscious, shadow struggles to show itself but is repressed by another psychic part affected EGO, the EGO (which is the "I") represses this shadow.
Carl Jung tells us that we shouldn’t fight our SHADOW if not, integrate it into our conscious, we must allow to live with our LIGHT AND DARKNESS, we cannot repress who we are, so we can only ACCEPT OURSELVES.
In BTS’ SHADOW music video, we see this, where Yoongi EGO and Yoongi SHADOW fight each other, a battle of the conscious and unconscious.
The unconscious shadow comes to light when we hit bottom in various situations, when we are in crisis we let out that shadow that we want to keep hidden: "Crises are great opportunities to familiarize ourselves with the shadow." -Carl Jung
Throughout the video we see Yoongi EGO fighting people with a hood, they want to touch it, record it, harass it. Yoongi reaches a point where he can't stand it anymore, EGO reaches a CRISIS and that's when everything turns red and we see Yoongi SHADOW.
1st pic: Yoongi EGO expresses to us how his shadow comes for him, and he doesn't want that.
2nd pic: We see two Yoongi(s) looking at each other, EGO and SHADOW; he says "you are me, I am you", accepting the dark archetype, shadow is part of Yoongi and as much as you want to repress it he cannot hide it.
3rd pic: “We are one body and we are gonna clash”... It is no longer a fight of light and darkness, Yoongi accepts that SHADOW is not something apart from him, but that is himself and accepts, and includes it. Now it's just Yoongi being a person.
Trsl. Cr. @asiaestheticc
* (in Jungian psychology) archetype is a collectively inherited unconscious idea, pattern of thought, image, etc., universally present in individual psyches.
