The Broken was originally the head of marine research at the blacksite, often making many major contributions to the advancement of knowledge on the life down there. She was extremely against the illegal testing undergone down there, but was essentially powerless to stop any of it.
One late night, she was running diagnostics in the water filtration room, when she allegedly disappeared. Up until the present day, no body has ever been found, no evidence at all except some tattered remains of a lab coat on the lower deck, right near the water. When the fabric was analyzed, there were high levels of radiation often given off by Z-317, also known as "Eyefestation".
When she first came to after the attack, she was laying on her side, soaked from head to toe, taking lungful after lungful of air. She had reached to her face to adjust her glasses only to find that they weren't there. Even more horrifyingly, her hand -- or what should have been her hand -- was a clawed purple, with scutes, or serpent like scales, where her skin should be.
Alarmed at the revelation, she quickly and shakily ran to the nearby bathroom, looking at herself in the mirror. What gazed back at her was not human. Her entire body was covered in the purple and pink scutes, and her face looked sleeker, still distinctly human, her teeth sharper, her eyes a deep aqua. Her feet looked much more claw-like as well. She backed away from the mirror, hyperventilating ad feeling like she was going to pass out.
Running out of the bathroom, she ran aimlessly though the halls of the blacksite, panicking. She couldn't believe this was happening. as the hours passed, she began to calm down, eventually finding some clothes, a pair of jeans, a brown leather jacket with a gray undershirt, and a tan-colored scarf. For some reason, she always felt cold, now. There was no heat source in the blacksite.
She would figure this out..she had to.
As time passed, she ran into many of the horrors of the area, such as Pandemonium, where she barely managed to hide in a vent, Eyefestation, who seemed to have no useful information, and many of the angler variants, as well.
Alongside that, she came to the conclusion that she was now a cold-blooded organism, needing a source of heat every once in a while to live, which made it that much harder to live.
Throughout the first few weeks, the whole ordeal seemed quite hopeless, actually. That is, until she met Ezer.
Ezer Solace was a kind soul, always willing to offer her tools, sanctuary, and warmth when she was cold. When she cried, he would comfort her with a hug and reassurances, and he was the first to learn of her...far less pleasant side effects of the change.
For example, when she was flashed by a bright light, such as a flash beacon, she grew far more angry, her eyes shifting from their usual color to a bright scarlet. During this 30-ish second phase, she becomes much more violent, physically stronger and faster, and generally far more dangerous.
But regardless of her flaws, Ezer always cared for her. He was, truly, her only friend.
It was a dark, dank whatever-time-of-day-it-was in the blacksite, the corridors being primarily blacked out in the area. In one of said rooms, a figure, a little taller than average, sat against a wall, eating...something. It was difficult to tell in the darkness.

*she slowly walked into the room, but once she saw the figure she slowly backed up into the doorway, terrified*
*she stared for a moment before deciding to just, walk around, glancing back at the figure every once in a while, just in case it moved at her*
She looked up. As vision in the darkness adjusted, it was clear that she wasn't eating any sort of expendable or human. instead, it seemed just to be a squibble.
Standing up and dragging the Squibble by the tentacles, she walked up to Kay, her mouth covered in inky black substance. Despite the general easily misinterpreted look, she didn't seem intent on harming Kay.
Violet tilted her head, fascinated by the face under the helmet. Her face looked...like almost that of a scientist..? No, that wasn't possible. She couldn't have been human...
"Wow, for a second I thought you were human, but now I see. You're...something else entirely."
She leaned in uncomfortably close, studying Kay's face much like a human scientist would...weird.

Deep within the blacksite, a slightly tall female figure sat cross-legged against the wall of one of the blacked-out rooms, eating...something. The darkness made it difficult to tell what.

Sam walked past the room, not wanting to interact much. He wasn't in the greatest mindset currently.
Looking up from her meal, The Broken noticed to figure walking past, but didn't pay much heed. Expendables brought nothing but trouble for her. It was best not to interact.
Standing up, she made her way over to the doorway, in better light. Dragged behind her was a half-eaten Squibble, and her mouth was covered in inky-like substance.
"It's, um...been a while since I've seen an expendable."
"You won't eat me right?" He asks, noticing the squiddle. He noticed their appearance, but didn't comment. he's dealt with a fair share of entities who were more human than one could think.

In the dark corridors of the complex, was a girl. She didn't look a day over 22, but nervousness was written all over her face and body language as she made her way slowly, steadily along. She was cautious, ready to run at a moment's notice if there was an angler or something else.

*A camera watches she slide around slowly around the facility, observing her*
*A turret lowers in the next room, aiming straight st the door*
As she opened the door, she heard the subtle beeping noise, right before it started firing, and ducked behind a locker, almost as if acting on instinct rather than reflexes.
