I’m Paul McCartney, and I’ve been told this is where people can send in questions and all sorts of things, which sounds a bit unusual — but I’m willing to give it a go.

We’ve been doing quite a lot of talking lately. Interviews, press, the usual, and I thought it might be nice to try something a little more... direct. Or at least as direct as one can be without getting into too much trouble.

I was also told to include a few “facts” about myself, which feels a bit unnecessary — some of you seem to know quite a lot about me than myself, but alright;

• Occupation: Musician (more or less)

• Band: The Beatles

• Instruments: Bass, guitar, piano… whatever’s about

• Likes: A good tune, a proper cup of tea, a laugh

• Dislikes: Being called the “Cute Beatle”

• Special skill: Writing pretty neat songs!

That should do before it turns into a school report.

Been thinking about this little tune I thought of a few years ago. It’s a bit different from what we usually do, maybe a bit old-fashioned, but I quite like it.

Was wondering what you lot think. Should I keep at it, or leave it as one of those ideas that just lives in your head?

Hello, love! Now hang on, George losing something? That’s a first, that is.

Striped shirt, right. I’ve seen a small mountain of jumpers and jackets round here, so it’s probably blended in nicely. I’ll have a proper look, but if I find it, I’m charging him a very serious fee... say, two pounds and a biscuit. Seems fair.

If it turns up, I’ll keep it safe before it wanders off again. Honestly, the place is turning into a lost-and-found lately. Ta, Pattie.

Two pounds and a biscuit sounds like a steep price, Paul, but I suppose that’s the cost of keeping his wardrobe intact! I’ll make sure he checks his own closets at Kinfauns first just in case he’s accusing you wrongfully.

But if it really did end up at Cavendish, keep it safe for us until the next time we drop by for tea! Did you end up finding where that pile of jackets came from, or is the living room still looking like a lost-and-found?

I’m actually over at Jane’s at the moment, so I can’t check straight away... But when I’m back at Cavendish I’ll have a proper look. Though at this point I’m convinced half his wardrobe’s migrated over without telling me. And knowing that pile, it’s probably still growing even while I’m not there —seems to manage it all on its own.

Blimey, that’s a bit deep for a Thursday, isn’t it?

I wouldn’t say anything I could pin down exactly — but you know how it is, sometimes you wake up with a feeling like someone’s been looking after you. Could just be your mind playing games... or maybe not. Funny old thing, dreams.

i've heard that you're going out with a certain girl by the name of jane asher. can you tell us more about her?

Oh, Jane? Well, she’s a lovely girl, really. Very talented, very clever, and she’s got her own thing going on, which I think is important. She’s an actress, and a very good one at that — not just because people know her name, but because she actually puts a lot into what she does.

She’s in quite a different world from mine, really. It’s nice, that. Jane’s also very funny, which helps. You need that, especially with everything being a bit mad at the moment.

But yes, she’s wonderful. I’d rather not make it sound like I’m writing a review of her, though. She’s a person, not a magazine article. She’d probably tell me off for making it too sentimental anyway.

So there you are. Jane Asher: talented, funny, and much more interesting than just “ Beatle Pauls girlfriend,” which is probably the most boring way of putting it.
