About the deaths of the bosses in Partners in Time:

They actually do explode, which is caused by their body destabilizing and releasing high amounts of energy that has been stored within their bodies.

The destabilization can occur when the body is at the brink of death or when mortally injured depending of the amount of energy that has been stored in the body.

But the destabilization is not a natural occurrence for the Shroobs or their allies and is actually a side effect cause by a substance they consume that helps them store energy (the more they drink, the more they store) which they use to acheive their work at their maximum efficiency, especially during the invasions.

It’s the Vim, a drink shared around with Shroobs and anyone who’s affiliated with them
