*Squeezing the bridge of his nose with his thumb and forefinger he sighs heavily before giving WD a world weary look, muttering sarcastically.*
Thank you for the boost of confidence.
*He leaves the room for several minutes, returning in his nightshirt and rummaging for a book nonchalantly on one of his many bookshelves. He takes out a pretty looking green hardback and begins searching the messy surfaces for something, squinting in the dim candle light*
I wouldn't concern yourself with that. I am fairly confident that Phil and Anne are no longer seeing eachother in the romantic sense. After that morning they 'talked' he sent the entire afternoon pretending he had a cold so I wouldn't think he was sniffling hunched over his paperwork.
Of course I'll talk to Anne if it makes you feel more confident, but I'm not going to go into any detail. The less people know about my interests the better, and I'm certainly going to be less willing to discus this situation once I've sobered up a bit.
*Making a sudden pleased hum, he finds a pair of reading spectacles under a pile of letters on the coffee table and hangs them on the neck of his nightshirt before moving over to lean against the bedroom door*
I doubt there is a future in that regards for myself and Phil. Lettie is right, he's likely been with every woman of the highest elite, he's a young, handsome bachelor. He could get with anyone in the city he wanted. I'm not saying I'm not a catch myself, you should see some of the explicit fan mail I'm sent; but I am an older, divorced man reaching my middle ages. I can't offer him children, I can't even marry the man. It's a ridiculous sentiment to even think about. It wouldn't be a good path for him even if he didn't recoil from the idea.
It's a fleeting crush, that's all it is. Every man grow smitten on the occasion there's nothing wrong with it.
I'll take him out to the music hall or something, perhaps dinner; tell him the truth, break it to him gently just so he knows and my mind is at rest, then I'll work on getting over it.
*He waves a hand dismissivelly*
Do douse that fire before you fall asleep. I'd like to not loose my Circus and home a second time.
*Shutting the door behind him he heads to bed, leaving the two of them in peace*
