This blew up. A few things I’d like to add.
One, it’s still incest if they aren’t blood-related. Having sex with your step-siblings isn’t anymore ethically, morally or societally wrong than having sex with your blood siblings. They don’t regard themselves as “close friends,” “battle partners” or any of the other dumb shit incest-supporters have tried to hide behind to avoid criticism. They are brothers, full-stop.
Two, the excuse of “they’re demons, so what?” is bad for numerous reasons. Viewing media and fandoms with a critical eye is good, it means that you aren’t going to let things that are “questionable” pass by. You can dodge around the fact until you’re blue in the face, but acceptance of things (even fictional) long-term will affect your perception of real life events. It’s called “getting used to it.” Also, having standards for writing or fandom isn’t anything to get upset about either. It’s 2020, and I think we can have a piece of media that doesn’t have incest in it, thank you.
Three, and this is a weird one, liking certain characters (such as Asmodeus) doesn’t mean that you suddenly can’t critique incest in the fandom. I’m fully aware of the writing errors that are imbedded in Asmo’s character and I’m fully aware of some of the off-putting things he says. I’m also aware that the OM! team have alluded to sexual assault in their sloppy writing and continually bully one of the only characters of color and mock him. These aren’t fucking paragons of writing capability here and I’m not surprised that they wrote Asmodeus the way they did. It’s wrong, and I don’t support it, and I don’t write/headcanon Asmodeus to be the way they depict him to be. Asmodeus was shafted in favor of having just the “slutty brother” and that apparently meant the fucked minds of the OM! team to make him make off-putting comments. A character’s bad writing doesn’t mean that suddenly you can’t like that character anymore, or that you need to suddenly become deaf and blind in the eyes of issues - it means you like a character with shitty writing and that you should critique the writing. Also, it’s a blog name, guys, and if your biggest take-away from my post is my blog name ... you’ve got bigger problems than I can solve.
And finally, four, don’t just throw your arms up and say “well, it’s just gonna be there anyway!” in response to the fandom. No, that is giving normalcy to these fucking incest writers and giving them a wall to hide behind. Don’t be the shield for these people, your complacency in problematic material will only create more of that material, as people no longer have to face the consequences for the actions of their creative works. This applies to both the OM! teams and the fandom. Stop giving people the ability to hide from what they’ve created, and stop inadvertently supporting incest in the process.
I’m not really even a part of this fandom anymore. I moved on to @lord-aeducan to have more of a video game-centric blog. I pop in once and while to check on what’s going on. Fandom sucks, and it always will, be it OM! or anything else but it’s important to view all media constructively and critically. And yes, I’m still going to block you if you try to do some incest apologia shit. Call me cowardly, but I’m not going to play defense force for the obviously right choice because you’re too scared to be confronted with the reality you supported and made for yourself.
